GDT 6/23/25: Braves @ Mets - Not Everything is Schwelly in the Neighborhood

I know no one here wants to believe, and the reaction after every win is "Blah, it means nothing," but just to note, the team has won nine of its last 13 games.

    Snit watch is on.

If it gets bad enough I suspect they'll find a way to replace Snitker that doesn't involve firing him. Promoting him to "Super-Duper Heckuva Guy Old-Timer Advisor Dude" or something.

    Snit watch is on.

Peak Bobby Cox was a different beast than Bobby from, say, 2000-2010. Peak Bobby was a solid, even occasionally innovative, in-game manager. Late stage Bobby was pretty set in his ways, but he still managed to squeeze great results from his teams due to his people management skills. Though I...

5/18 GDT: Schwellenbach, The Drake, and the Rested Bullpen in the Series Finale in Fenway

Sorry, I was going to respond to this earlier, but I rolled my eyes so hard they fell out of my head and I had to go track them down.

    Acuna Update

That's not a "Huh, he might be useful" huh. It was a "Huh, that guy is still around" huh.

    Acuna Update

    Huh. Garrett Cooper.

    Acuna Update

If Acuna hits a deep fly ball tonight, I hope he walks to first base like he's taking a pleasant autumn stroll.

GDT 5/6/25: Braves vs Reds - Lineup Adjustments

There's plenty of time to figure this out. We'll have more data on Acuna's post-surgery defense at the end of the year and a better sense of how we feel about Ozuna as well -- he's 34 years old. He might struggle the rest of the year, end up with mediocre numbers and that'll resolve that issue

05/04/25 GDT Dodgers @ Braves May the 4th Be With Us

Beating the Freeze doesn't seem to mean much these days.

Did you guys know that Nick Allen is married to Bret Boone's daughter?

GDT 4/28/25: Braves @ Rockies - Get That Rocky Mountain High

Huh. We won a Coors Field game started by Bryce Elder in which we didn't hit a home run.

    Ian Anderson Is Back

The Statcast data puts his fastball velocity this year at 93.7 MPH, which is slower than his starter days. He sure doesn't seem to be enjoying that massive reliever velocity spike people have been counting on.

    Ian Anderson Is Back

Anderson has racked up -0.6 WAR in 9 1/3 IP with seven walks, 17 hits and an ERA of 11.57. Guys, he's just done.

GDT 4/27/25: Braves @ Diamondbacks - Schwellenbach Brings the Broom

Verdugo has 12 hits as a Brave. Eight of them have come in two games. I don't really mean that as a criticism -- the sample size is really small and you get oddities like that. I just think it's funny.

GDT 4/23/25: Braves vs Cardinals - Verdugo Out White In

Ryan Fernandez, the guy White homered off of yesterday, has -1.1 WAR in 8 2/3 innings.

GDT 4/21/25: Braves vs Cardinals - Kelenic moves up

I have to say, the entire argument for Snitker as the team's manager is that he's a great clubhouse guy, someone all the players like and respect, someone who can keep everything on an even keel during a long season and ensure a certain degree of harmony in the clubhouse. If he loses that...

Javy Lopez Tested Positive For Steroids

He hit 36 in 2000 and 38 in 2001. He wasn't 1996 Brady Anderson. Can I sit here and promise you to a metaphysical certainty that Chipper never used steroids? Of course not. It was a pretty steroid-suffused era. Juan Cruz apparently tested positive and he was rail thin. Alex Sanchez was the...

Javy Lopez Tested Positive For Steroids

Juan Cruz? Didn't that guy weigh, like, 125 pounds?
