Hitting a baseball is really difficult. Even a pitcher with objectively terrible stuff and command by Major League standards will be tough to hit in an absolute sense. Don Wengert once had a month where he threw seven innings in a start and gave up one run, and another start that month where he...

Anderson might make sense as a buy-low candidate for a hopeless rebuilding team like the White Sox. But if you're a team that actually cares about the outcome of its games, it's hard to justify going out of your way to acquire Ian Anderson.

I'm on board. Looking at the stats, it seems like the best-case scenario for him would probably be a low-OBP, high-SLG guy with a lot of strikeouts, but hey, we've acquired Adam Duvall about 37 different times over the last five years, so we're clearly cool with that player archetype.

I assume that's not Miguel Cairo at short, though considering how terrible our benches are I can't rule it out completely.

I'll admit that I am so utterly uninterested in stories about deals the Braves almost made that, coincidentally, happen to disprove claims that the team was budget conscious in the offseason.

It's increasingly common and a source of some angst and frustration. There are times where the manager is on board and it's more of a collaborative back-and-forth than the executive handing down "Thou shalt not" dictates from on-high -- by every account Dave Roberts in LA has this relationship...

The Braves -- and Anthopolous specifically -- have publicly said, over and over and over again, that they believe it's vital to the culture of the team for their regulars to play every day, where they mean "every day" as close to literally as possible. I personally disagree with that, and very...

I've always really liked Diekman, though I recognize that's more about vibes and how dominant he can look in any given appearance than a true reflection of his overall effectiveness (he's got 3.2 WAR for his career and an ERA+ of 108). I think you have to assume this signing isn't going to be...

Passan says Alonso's deal is two years, opt-out after the first season, he'll get $30 million this year. That's...not the contract he was looking for.

Andruw ended up with 66.2 percent of the vote. He's well-positioned to get in, either next year or the year after.

You all need to take a deep breath. About the Dodgers, anyway. Hyperventilating about the Braves' terrible offseason is both acceptable and encouraged.

Thing is, while this is still a really good team and a really good roster, there are clear, obvious weaknesses that need to be addressed. Anthopolous or beat writers can try to frame this as silly fans who just want to see activity for the sake of activity, but right now we have one outfielder...

B-Ref has him at slightly below average defensively and as a baserunner (which passes the smell test, certainly) and it was a SLG-heavy OPS. Still, 3.3 WAR (per B-Ref) does feel pretty low for that season. I think there's always been a belief that WAR doesn't do a great job evaluating catchers...

Rosenthal says the Blue Jays are in on Alonso. Of course, as Blue Jays fans will tell you, Toronto is always "in on" everyone and always finishes second.
