    Minor League Thread Part Deux

Juan Espinal received the 2nd-highest bonus ($440,000) from the Braves during the 2024 signing period. Perdomo took over 80% of the Braves' pool last year, signing a $5 MM deal. Espinal has had some pretty big-time contact issues striking out around 35% of the time but his walk rate and power...

    2025 Trade Deadline Thread

Heyman lists a lot of available relief pitchers and I can't help but wonder what the pecking order is and how the considerations of rental v. continued control will play into teams' discussions surrounding a lot of these guys.

DSL Braves score 15 runs in the first inning on their way to a 17-3 rout over the Pirates' DSL team.

    2025 Trade Deadline Thread

When he inherited the team, I thought Anthopoulos did a really good job of finding guys who would take short-term high AAV contracts to fill in around a decent core of players. That worked pretty well. The approach changed after 2021 and he went big on the long-term deals and extensions (and...

Yankees are picking up the entire salary. McMahon is signed through 2027. He's getting paid $12 MM this year and is scheduled to get $16 MM in 2026 and $16 MM in 2027. McMahon's offensive value appears to be almost exclusively in his power numbers. Going to a lower altitude may dull that...

Going to the Rockies. LHP Griffin Helling was the Yankees' 6th-round pick in 2024 out of LSU and currently in High-A. Yankees' 6th-ranked prospect with a 45 value. RHP Josh Grosz was Yankees' 11th-round pick in 2023 out of East Carolina and is also pitching in High-A. He was the Yankees'...

    MLB Draft Thread

Braves have signed Puerto Rican HS SS/OF Yamvier Carrero to a contract. He participated in the pre-draft HS combine but went undrafted. No statistical information other than average EV of 93 (max of 104.6). Right next to Braves #5 Connor Essenburg in Baseball America's performance table...

I think Holmes could be a valuable piece for a playoff team. He's not top drawer, but he could be used as a starter or multi-inning reliever.

Looks like two lottery tickets going to Baltimore, which is only appropriate because Soto is a lottery ticket every time he takes the mound. Did the Orioles have to throw in some money to pay for the seamstress' costs resulting from the Mets having to add initials to the two Soto's uniforms?

I didn't realize that Laureano was having such a solid season, but he may be on his way to the highest bWAR of his career. As for Anthopoulos, he built this team for the Acuna window by assuming that signing almost the entire offense to extensions would assure success. No question the Braves...

Curious to see if this starts things moving. Hard to know where everyone's sweet spot is in terms of when to make a deal. Go too fast and you don't get fair return or go to slow and lose at musical chairs. I honestly wonder about what Ozuna's value actually is, but there are teams in the wild...

Rasslin' Thread: Sponsored by the Oz Man

I don't know if he was truly a shitty person, but when you watch all of these wrestlers do post-retirement interviews it's pretty clear that he wasn't liked all that much. He was a company man for the most part, but he even had a falling-out with McMahon (which probably shows that McMahon is...

They have had some exceptions with Harris (at least until this year) and Baldwin, but they haven't had widespread success developing hitters in the draft. Jury is out on Alvarez and he's young. Langeliers got traded and is doing alright as is Durbin (who developed in the Yankees' system). And...

    2025 Around The League Thread

I think the closest to Baldwin would be Caleb Durbin at 1.6 fWAR/2.1 bWAR. He's not playing every day and Baldwin will likely be playing between 80% and 90% of the games the rest of the way, so he's probably the odd's on favorite for ROY.

Rasslin' Thread: Sponsored by the Oz Man

He was all the rage when he hit the scene. He wrestled up here in Minnesota for Verne Gagne's AWA and was all the rage. McMahon saw the potential and Gagne was notoriously stingy and missed the boat. Gagne also didn't think the "muscle" guys were great wrestlers (and truth be told, most of...

AJC And Braves Beat Writer Justin Toscano Part Ways

The problem for beat writers these days is that the teams basically want them to be part of the franchise's PR arm. It's only when things turn into a turd salad that the writers can point out some of the issues.

GDT 7/20 -Grant Holmes in: Take the Series From These Damn Yankees

Impossible to do Occam's Razor with Anthopoulos, but this could mean two things: (1) the end of the Ozuna era, or (2) putting Murphy in the line-up every day to showcase him. I tend to think it's the first, but I've quit trying to figure out Anthopoulos.

GDT 7/20 -Grant Holmes in: Take the Series From These Damn Yankees

It's not. I just think Snitker's approach is "No big deal to me so I don't know why it's a big deal for anyone else."
