    2024 Minor League Thread

Kilpatrick has 4 straight muti-hit games in Rome. He is 23+. There is nothing in Mississippi to block his path. He k's a good bit, but he also appears to get deep into counts and draw walks. It also appears he plays a decent CF. If he hits in AA, he might have some trade value by the...

    2024 Minor League Thread

We have a few non-prospects off to decent to good starts this season. Augusta: Drew Compton (UDFA from GA Tech) and Mitch Farris (14th round in 2023). Rome: Kevin Kilpatrick (17th round in 2022) and Samuel Strickland (19th round in 2021). Mississippi: Justin Dean (17th round in 2018) and JJ...

Not that it matters, but I don't think he did. I remember him playing a bunch of 2b and 3b and being told to disregard him as a prospect because he didn't hit enough to be an everyday guy at 2b or 3b.

Nitram Odarp that can play some SS? Kid has a better future than I thought.

The discussion of Alvarez's defense kind of reminds me of Riley when he was in the minors. The initial take was he would never be fluid enough/have enough range to stick at 3B and LF was his future. Then as he kept getting better at 3B, some never reconsidered the initial take. Despite being...

    Official 2024 Off-Season Thread!

Without a doubt the Braves advance their prospects to provide them with challenges and to cover needs of the big club. We've seen plenty of prospects make the majors without being a finished product. Most, like AJSS, get a taste and then head back down. AJSS needs to log some innings before...

Fangraphs: What, exactly, are the Braves up to?

The Braves are not going to win a WS based upon big name SP. This team is set up to win by the lineup being hot at the right time and the bullpen being lights out. Look at 2021. The "big three" were Fried, Morton and 22 year old Ian Anderson. In the WS, Morton breaks his leg in Game One...

    Official 2024 Off-Season Thread!

There is an old joke within the industry: "Do you know the secret to becoming a millionaire in the thoroughbred industry? Begin as a billionaire." The 80s saw an end to most of the tax breaks that made the thoroughbred industry a wise investment. In the last decade there have been a handful...

    Official 2024 Off-Season Thread!

The Braves have had a miraculous % of the position player prospects hit and have seen a ludicrous % of the SP prospects flame out following some really good early results. I'm hoping AJ and Hurston make that second % look a little better for the Braves. I think the Braves brass really likes...

    Official 2024 Off-Season Thread!

Seems to me AA's contract extensions were premised upon being able to keep the rotation stocked with kids and one affordable vet presence. We pretty much saw the pipeline of the kids implode this season when Wright, Anderson and Soroka all fell out of the 2024 plan due to injury. Unless the...

GDT: Braves @ Phillies Game 3: No Mentum Like Momentum

Its not the Phillies, its the entire town. I guess if I lived there I'd probably have a complex as well.

Grissom gets a bunch of flack for what he can't do. But he is 22 years old in AAA with an OPS of .928 and 50 BB against 60K. He could easily be someone's 2B, but not ours because of Ozzie. If you look at his defensive assignment in AAA this year, he has played twice as much at SS as he has...

    2023 Misc Braves Talk

I know it is way to early to discuss, but for a team with a farm system near the bottom of the rankings, the Braves will have some significant starting pitching depth options to sort through this offseason. Strider and Elder can pretty much be penciled in barring injury. One would think Soroka...

In order for Urias to win 300 he needs to win 15 a year for the next 16 years.

    2023 Misc Braves Talk

Just a reminder how hard it is to win 300 games. There are only 24 players in the club. Maddux is 8th all time with 355. That lands him one win ahead of Clemons (354). Glavine ended with 305 and Randy Johnson with 303. Those are the last 4 to make it in. Charlie Morton is 39 and has...

    2023 MLB Draft Thread

I love these first three picks; even the VT guy. The rebuild was essentially constructed with arms, international signings, and trades. Riley and Harris are the only everyday players the Braves acquired in the draft. Think about how many arms we've seen come and go in this organization...

If you want a reason to get REALLY excited about this kid, look at his splits. He has 33 PA against him with a runner on base. 13 K'd (39.4%). 3 BB (9.1%). No one has a hit. Not one. With the bases empty he gives up a hit to 1 out of every 4 batters. It certainly looks like he is free...

Why not? He has 21 frames above low A ball at this point! Seriously though, it appears they want to challenge him and he aced his first 2 starts in AA. He does seem to be on an 80 pitch limit in his starts. Will they lift that once he gets to Atlanta (I'm not even sure if I am joking)?

Its not about the number of pitches on his arm, but the stress of those pitches. If he is in AAA with knowledge he is working on getting right, there is little stress. If he is in Atlanta trying to be effective without his best stuff, there will be stress.
