It's just common sense. A guy with no range will make less errors because he doesn't get to very much. Do you think all the SS's that had less errors than Simmons are better defensive shortstops than him? I doubt it...

Errors are a terrible way to measure defense. A severe lack of range has a lot to do with his lack of errors. Make no mistake Chris Johnson was among the worst defensive 3B's in all of baseball.
