    Official 2022 Offseason Moves Thread

To be clear, I don't buy into the clutch gene, I don't buy RBI as a useful stat, and I don't think the Braves should make roster decisions around a guy being a good hitter with RISP since there is not a good way to measure it right now. But, it does seem to me that there could be a way to...

    Official 2022 Offseason Moves Thread

We are talking about different things. I never said 'clutch' was a skill- factoring in things like what the score is and what the inning is don't particularly interest me as part of the equation. I completely agree that in a high leverage situation or a low leverage situation, you just want the...

I certainly could be wrong here, but I'd want to see a data set that says "its been proven that over the course of large samples, every hitter's average with risp regresses to the mean over time." There are other things that would fall into this category: Ex: some hitters- due to differences in...

I would agree. It feels like it has to be somewhere in between normal sample size variation and completely repeatable skill. It would seem to me that there might be certain players who excel at hitting pitchers out of the stretch, or who feel more confident guessing pitch selection with runners...

How Long Is Our Contention Window Set To Remain Open?

I would agree with the 'as long as Acuna is here' statement with the huge caveat that he has to be- and remain- healthy.

Any chance they would give a QO to Syndergaard instead? I imagine that is what they were trying to evaluate when they got him in a few games at the end of the season.

Have we all decided that Duvall is an above average CF now? I'm not particularly well versed in defensive metrics, but his 210 innings there this year were the entirety of his experience there and he just turned 33. I'm not sure how badly I want to be having him be plan A in CF next year...

I think that would be true without the DH when we had a black hole at 8 and then the pitcher 9th, but the DH gives some flexibility there. I expect Pache to be the opening day center fielder. I don't see him being a whole lot worse than Chas McCormick, for example.

GDT 10/31/21: Braves vs Astros - World Series Game 5

I believe they led the league in OPS against lefties and against righties. So you aren't going to get a huge platoon advantage by going lefty or righty for multiple innings- just in short stints mostly against Altuve and Brantley. So I agree- Davidson was the wrong choice, though the worse...

rico43 has gone beyond the Field of Dreams.

Dang, just seeing this thread. What a bummer. RIP to rico. Hopefully someone picks up the minor league mantle in his honor next year (after the Braves win the WS in his honor, of course).

    Official 2021 World Series Predictions

I'm the opposite of PawPaw- not particularly impressed by the Astros pitching, but think they have the best lineup in baseball. The Dodgers have more impressive depth, but I think I would take the Astros 1-9. I do think this is a unique case where the AL team will be hurt more than the NL team...

    GDT 10/19/21: Braves @ Dodgers - NLCS Game 3

We are certainly in a better position from a pitching standpoint even with Jackson and Matzek throwing every day. It just doesn't line up well for them, especially tomorrow. Going into game 4 last year after giving up 100 runs in game 3 I didn't feel particularly confident that we could stop...

Around the League - 2021 Szn

Fair enough. I can see a team wanting him included in a package, but I'm not sure many teams would consider him a central piece to a package. You'd be looking at 2-3 top tier guys (Pache, one of the catchers, Grissom- those types) and then maybe could include Wright as part of the prospects to...

    GDT 10/19/21: Braves @ Dodgers - NLCS Game 3

At the end of the day, I feel good going against Urias. We hit him hard the other day and he's coming back with limited rest again. The Dodgers used 9 pitchers yesterday. We should've stepped on their neck yesterday and didn't, but they aren't off the deck yet. Have to do it today.

Flew to LA for the game yesterday morning. Got back to Denver at 2:00 am. Absolute pain.

    GDT 10/19/21: Braves @ Dodgers - NLCS Game 3

Decided to fly out to LA for the day. Got in this morning, flying back out tonight after the game. Heading over to Dodger Stadium shortly. GO BRAVES.

    GDT 10/19/21: Braves @ Dodgers - NLCS Game 3

Why do you say that? Urias didn't look particularly great last night, so I'm not particularly terrified of him going again on two days rest. Obviously we could lose, but today's game is going to be much harder to win.

GDT 10/17/21: Braves vs Dodgers - NLCS Game 2

I question whether Joc or Duvall would uphold the mutual end of their options. Duvall has to be looking for a bigger contract. Pederson likely wants to play more than he could in Atlanta so he can rebuild his value.
