    Official 2022 Offseason Moves Thread

We don't have to pretend like Liberty couldn't spend an extra $100m if they wanted to. They gave a special $.25/share dividend to shareholders in February- could've thrown part of that billion somewhere other than to shareholders. But, again, this is to be expected.

    Official 2022 Offseason Moves Thread

They are just as greedy as any corporation out there- shouldn't come as a surprise. But I do believe we'll open this season with the highest payroll in Braves history and with a substantial increase from last year- something like a $22m increase and with some room to grow at the deadline as...

I tend to agree with this. We'll pick up a veteran starter who gets released late in spring, but no additional signings remotely in the $ range of Soler/Conforto.

    Braves sign Rosario - 2 yr / 18M (3rd year club option)

I doubt Pederson would've given that deal to anyone else. I know his in-laws reasonably well, and its been pretty clear how badly they wanted to be back in California after reluctantly signing in Chicago last year. Being in SF specifically is a huge bonus for them as both of them grew up in Palo...

Would seem to be more evidence that they overplayed their hand and are now having to settle. Disappointing that the Braves couldn’t wait, but I think they did the right thing.

    Braves sign Rosario - 2 yr / 18M (3rd year club option)

He only really needs to be just over a 1 WAR guy to be worth $9m. I think he’s got a good chance of being closer to a 2 WAR guy if they think he’s healthy again. I’m good with it.

This is right. The locals here have been getting restless that ownership won't spend any money. Unfortunately, they just spent stupid money. I'm not sure that's going to help.

    Braves on TV

I'll probably ruin this for myself, but I split an MLB.tv subscription with a couple friends who are fans of different teams. One of them is a Pirates fan, so he stops watching games by May anyways. The other is a Cubs fan, but we've never run into issues watching games at the same time...

Here I am stuck with the Rockies as my local team. I'm going to go wander around downtown tonight in an Olson jersey and make fun of people.

    Freddie Freeman Appreciation Thread

I feel badly for him in a way. Wanted the best for him, and as Enscheff said he seems to have overplayed his hand. Really curious to see where he ends up now, but I wonder how much he's regretting not taking the best offer that AA put on the table. Is there a world where he ends up signing a 1...

    Braves sign Rosario - 2 yr / 18M (3rd year club option)

The club options are awesome. Aa is the continued ability to announce every deal via press release. The Passans of the world seem to have every other deal figured out before it’s announced, but the Braves announce every deal themselves.

DOB saying that Duvall will start the season as the primary CF and that Acuña will play CF this year as well. Disappointing. Still think we need an innings eating starter and an outfielder, even if its not a centerfielder.

    Braves sign Collin McHugh

Definitely wouldn't surprise me. I don't love watching it, but it worked reasonably well last year. I'd prefer to see us do some piggybacking- McHugh/Muller and Wright/Davidson- than a true opener, but you can never have enough effective arms and McHugh certainly is one.

    Braves sign Collin McHugh

Still need to make a move for someone who can eat innings IMO. McHugh is obviously not that guy, although he could be an interesting swing guy to pair with someone like Muller/Davidson if that's the route we want to go.

    Freddie Freeman Appreciation Thread

It wouldn't surprise me if six years from now he's closing in on retirement and we're all thrilled that our last memories of him are what they are. He did more than enough to be beloved by Braves fans forever, but it would have been really frustrating to see him languish into his mid 30s and...

    Matt Olson to Braves!

Good stuff, thanks! Hopefully we have already bought him a little red pitching machine like the one LaStella introduced him to in Oakland.

    Matt Olson to Braves!

Looking at his BaseballSavant profile. Looks like he ultimately was being more defensive- exchanged strikeouts and line drives for an increase in ground balls while his fly ball rate stayed the same. To me, that suggests a slightly more defensive hitter. But you're also right about his...

    Matt Olson to Braves!

Wish I watched the A's more. No idea if his success off lefties last year and cutting his strikeout rate in half has to do with a change in approach, change in mechanics, or just a really fortunate season. Regardless he's probably bound for regression in both departments, but knowing more about...

    Official 2022 Offseason Moves Thread

I'm not sure we'll ever know that is the case. For all we know, AA made him a big offer before spring training last year and Freddie decided to wait. I don't think there is 'blame' for either side. Both did what was best for them, and ultimately I think both will be better off for it.

    Matt Olson to Braves!

More cuts from this video are some bombs off guys like Framber Valdez and Jose Urquidy who I'll always remember from last year. Another thing that stood out: he hit a clutch homer off Hader in this video that got me wondering about his splits. Career he has an .804 OPS against lefties (vs...
