    It's Anthopoulos

Excellent hire. I cannot stress enough how much of a bullet we avoided given some of the other names in the running. Thank goodness that McGuirk and the bean counters took heed of the fact that the overwhelming trend in baseball is to hire progressive thinking FOs instead of going JS's Hendry...

Megathread: Braves lose Maitan, Bae and 10+ plus International Sanctions.

I didn't know where to put this but I guess this is as good a thread as any since we're all talking about the ineptitude of this organization generally. So... even if we got an analytically savvy GM and/or staff, our tracking data is so bad it can't be relied upon. Laughable...

Megathread: Braves lose Maitan, Bae and 10+ plus International Sanctions.

It all boils down to this: "The Braves Way" has evolved into an idiom for blame projection and scapegoating. The sad part of all of this is it seems as if McGuirk and the Two Johns, feeling pressure from the public and the press to become more progressive in their analytical approach within...

Megathread: Braves lose Maitan, Bae and 10+ plus International Sanctions.

http://www.macon.com/sports/spt-columns-blogs/bill-shanks/article176793871.html As if it's any surprise what his cro-magnon take is (for those who wish to avoid giving Bill Shanks clicks, it boils down to Dayton Moore is our sole savior and suspenders was not involved in the infractions).

    Official “Eating Crow” Thread

Sure it did. Moved on up from regular petty thefts and the like around Turner Field to high dollar, WorldCom style white collar crime in Cobb. Enhancement.

What should our lineup look like next year?

The part of that article that troubles me the most isn't what was said but what wasn't - yes he alludes to Albies in reference to mentioning Acuna forcing his way into the majors but heaps praise on Swanson's post-demotion play (without nary a reference to his struggles against sliders) but...

    9/24 GDT

He's clearly fatigued from the workload this season- but no reason not to remain excited about him going forward. I agree he ought to be shut down for the remainder of the year, though.

New Rosenthal countinues to chronical dissent in FO

This is the same article I posted in the Snitker thread for those wondering - a good article and probably one that deserves it's own thread. The fact that they want "yes" men frightens me given their decisionmaking to date for the most part.

Mark Bradley gets it; Re: Brian Snitker

Rosenthal at his new outlet (the Athletic- subscription required) doubles down on his prior article about some muted turmoil in the Braves FO. The more I read, the more I'm increasingly critical of current management. Their promotions scream of pressure out of desperation - as others here have...

    Around MLB 2017

Eh. I'm not a fan of Posey but I think two things were at play here: first, as has been already noted, I think he didn't approve of Strickland's decision to hit Harper in the first place (and didn't feel the need to intervene thereafter); and, perhaps more importantly, Posey's been instructed to...

Braves Acquire Matt Adams From Cardinals

First let me caveat by saying I do not consider myself a "posi" or "nega" Brave fan. I always opt for a reasoned and informed approach before forming an opinion; whether that position is perceived to be positive or negative is outside of my control (and frankly outside of the ambit of what I...

    Braves: OF of both extremes?

Reports are that the Braves are willing to offer Pagan a MLB contract; I think the issue is the dollars now (and perhaps a physical issue ... of course we're also talking about the Os, who have had a less than stellar reputation within the industry with respect to their "physicals" - see, e.g...

    Braves: OF of both extremes?

I don't purport to know what Coppy is thinking of at the moment, but I do think they thought they would be able to nab Pagan on the cheap. He's reportedly asking for a MLB deal with $5M in guaranteed dollars (or incentives to reach $5M). He also reportedly failed a physical with the Orioles so...

    Braves sign John Danks

So Plan B after Sale for the box marked "Obtain ace from White Sox" was John Danks. The plan is now all revealed. I kid, I kid. No harm in these types of flyers.

    Braves sign Sean Rodriguez

Good value signing. He's no world beater but if he accumulates 300-400 ABs, he should be worth well north of a $5M annual salary. It's hard to find actual value upside in the FA market, so kudos to Coppy for doing so on a reasonable short-term contract. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!

    Braves sign Colon

I like these signings. I'm not ecstatic over them, mind you, but getting 380-400 innings of average to slightly above average pitching for below the current WAR/$ ratio and on one-year commitments (Dickey has team option) in an otherwise weak pitching FA class is perfectly tolerable for a...

    Braves sign Dickey

It's a "meh" move but it's not a terrible one, either (depending on price). I 'm assuming he signed for $6-8M for one year which isn't prohibitive and he is likely to give us 180+ mediocre to potentially slightly above mediocre which has some value.

Braves parting ways with Roger McDowell

For the most part, I agree - especially about Leo's abilities (or lack thereof) with progressing younger pitchers. However he did help make several successful reclamation projects as well- Jaret Wright is one who I think had something north of a 8 ERA when we picked him up off the waiver wire...
