    GDT 9-22: Sale vs. Nationals

Braves really need to lock down Kim for next season and, if necessary, beyond.

But in this case, we’re talking about future expectations for pitchers, not comparing finished seasons/careers. That’s more relevant when looking at / thinking about Michael King. (Meanwhile, we should all accept that Elder will be around as rotational depth until a lack of options forces the...

    GDT 9-22: Sale vs. Nationals

He’s been decent this year after two very good seasons in ‘23 and ‘24. Way more interesting than Connor Seabold.

GDT 9-21: Going for a Motor City Sweep on NFL Week 3

Not for nothing, I really loathe Snitker at this point.

GDT 9-21: Going for a Motor City Sweep on NFL Week 3

I genuinely think a ~.800 OPS for a full year from a catcher should beat out ~120 innings of 3.00 ERA from a pitcher. And that’s without even delving into underlying metrics.

I’m fine with giving him the Profar contract. He’s really lengthened the lineup, with a minimal defensive downgrade from Allen. And the upshot is it would show the FO can work with Boras, which could then pay dividends when negotiating with Cease.

The insurance runs should make it a no-brainer.

Hope they’re working to creatively extent Kim. Picking up the option is still possible, but looking a little less likely.

    GDT 9-20: Drake at DH

Hard to know what the team has in Alvarez Jr. The bat seems like it could be useful with swing changes that get him to elevate more, especially since he has solid plate disciple and bat control; but there’s still probably not enough offense there to be a regular at 3B, even with the very good...

Olson doesn’t sit. (But he also doesn’t shame other players for taking a rest day, like some other, lesser 1Bs around the league.)

Either way, it proves depth is paramount. Tucker, Hader, Cease, bullpen arms.

    GDT 9-15: Braves in DC

Best First Baseman this franchise has ever seen.

Both teams failed challenges on the same play, so that’s fun.

    GDT 9-15: Braves in DC

Harris will be fine. We just need him to be a .700-.750 OPS player, with his defense—which I think is feasible, even if comes via maddening low streaks punctuated by insane months where he looks like the best player on the planet. And if Kim opts in, I like the position-player mix overall. I...
