    GDT 8/28/25: Braves @ Phillies - Quantrill's last start?

I miss Swanson. It was really nice having an actual MLB SS in the lineup.

Ritchie appears to have a slightly below average sinker in terms of velocity and movement, but the change has plus sink and the curve has plus glove-side movement. That's the makings of a solid mid-rotation piece...as usual depending on control. just based on pitch metrics I prefer JR to Didier...

A Baldwin/AJSS/Waldrep package is about what everyone around here assumed Crochet would cost, and we all would have disliked it at the time. Now that Waldrep has possibly reinvented himself I am ever happier the trade didn't go down. Knowing even Crochet wouldn't have saved this season, the...

GDT 8/26: Hurston vs. Sandy, No Drake, 6:40 start

Yeah, expected stats matter for things like predicting future performance, but things like MVP and RoY should be what actually happened. The guy who hit his bomb with the bases loaded was more important than the guy who hit a solo HR, for example. Even though the grand slam in no way predicts...

    GDT 8-25: Striding in Miami

In my league they aren’t cheaters. I want Sosa and Mac taking turns hitting 500’ bombs while Clemens fires heaters by them. Never really understood why people pretend to be so offended that athletes use PEDs to be more entertaining.

I don’t care if profar is on every roid available as long as he doesn’t get caught. In fact, I’m all for letting players take whatever drugs they want to improve performance because I want to watch guys do awesome things.

    GDT 8-25: Striding in Miami

While it’s fair to blame injury woes on bad luck, the reality is Strider was coming back from a 2nd elbow rebuild, Sale ended the season with a bad back, Holmes was a converted BP arm, and Lopez had multiple arm issues. Anyone claiming this pitching situation came out of nowhere is a fool.

His August numbers are legit too with an xwOBA of .405...the highest of any month in his career.

another full time DH should be somewhere around Plan D. The whole idea is to get Acuna PAs at DH, and use the position like modern teams without a legit .900 OPS bat-only hitter tend to use it.

Correctomundo With Allen, Nacho, and White the Braves have the makings of a reasonably good 2026 bench. All they need offensively is a real SS and a real OFer to replace Ozuna's bat.

So I'll say it...back on the juice?

    GDT 8-25: Striding in Miami

It's nice when Albies does the only thing he can do offensively and pulls a HR down the line. If he can do that 20-30 times next year he might be an average player.

GDT 8/26: Hurston vs. Sandy, No Drake, 6:40 start

Baldwin is very clearly the best NL rookie, and it isn't particularly close. Once everyone regresses to their xwOBA, and voters realize Baldwin is a catcher, the choice should be blatantly obvious.

GDT 8/26: Hurston vs. Sandy, No Drake, 6:40 start

It's nice to see the offense come around when the season is lost and the rotation has a grand total of 1.5 actual SPs in it.

That curve looks especially nasty. I hope he stays away from the 4 seamer.

Waldrep's command looks awful early. Time to get dialed in.

I could get on board with a cheap Baldwin extension and a short Sale extension. Good BP arms and a MOR SP or better are both given.

    GDT 8-25: Striding in Miami

So this is mostly correct, and just a little bit intentionally misleading. Strider averaged 17.5" of rise last night, which this guy conveniently rounded up to 18 to make it look better, even after reporting all other numbers to the tenths decimal point to make things look more accurate (the...

    2025 Around The League Thread

The Braves core is aging just like every core ages. The issue is all the extensions AA signed (and were lauded by nearly everyone at the time) means there is zero flexibility to maneuver around that aging core. This is the risk I mentioned way back when everyone was so busy patting each other on...

    GDT 8-25: Striding in Miami

Strider’s arm angle is 4-5 degrees lower than it was in 2022/2023, which is likely why he isn’t getting the same rise on the ball. Fixing arm angle seems like a reasonably easy adjustment to make.
