Fast food workers go on strike

Oh, well in case I wasn't clear, I am not a free market capitalist. I like a well regulated economy. The emphasis on well though... minimum wage laws have their use, but they are not the answer.

Fast food workers go on strike

My feelings on the matter are kinda complex, but what I can't stand is selective enforcement of free market-ism. Either stand by it or don't. (I largely don't believe in absolute free market capitalism, yet also think the minimum wage is of limited use... go figure) Like Hawk, I think if you...

    The future is looking bright

Economic bubbles are as old as commerce itself, I don't think it's been especially bad over the past 30 years. Not that we should stop trying to avoid them, but you have to be aware that they've always happened, and always will happen to some extent. The focus should rather be in containing...

GDT 8/28/13: Indians (Masterson) @ Braves (Maholm) 7:10 PM

I wish there was a higher league of message boards we could send Julio too. He's conquered this level and needs to be promoted.

    The future is looking bright

A rare optimistic post for this board... The economy is headed for good things in the near future. This is the most optimistic many have been about the economy since the mid 1990's. The downside risk, however, remains Congress. Fiscal policy is the one thing that could wreck what should...

Fast food workers go on strike

Who are you to say what someone "deserves" to get paid? I thought you were a free market capitalist.

Fast food workers go on strike

Wait wait wait... So I am a worker at McDonalds. My company makes billions of dollars in profit every year. I am making $7.25/hour. I decide that I would like to be paid more. I speak to my fellow employees and they agree. We go on strike, essentially saying that we would rather not work there...

Nationals even mess up waiver claims

BJ Upton has been pretty bad with the bat... and that's about it? I don't even think a single braves player has a batting line under league average, as amazing as that is. Compared to the lines those 4 guys put up for the Nats... it's not even a comparison. BJ's been better with the bat than...

Nationals even mess up waiver claims

Their bullpen is 22nd in the majors this year in ERA and WAR. However bullpens are fairly easy to fix. Starting pitching is 12th. Position players are 23rd, but that's mostly because Lombardozzi, Tracy, Espinosa, and Bernadina were all hitting like pitchers while filling in for various players...

Nationals even mess up waiver claims

The Nationals seem like they're built the opposite of the Braves: great top-shelf players, and just zero depth behind them. Rendon/Desmond/Werth/Harper will all be good, and Ramos might be good too. But anytime anyone goes down, the guys who step in are playing at AA-levels of productivity...

Braves in the mix for Cuban Shortstop

I don't know about "not right". They got a giant TV deal. I'm glad the players will benefit instead of the owners just pocketing all that cash.

    Good Wood

    They almost identical career numbers.

    Good Wood

Not sure I understand. What's Beachy done that gives him a leg up on Medlen, as of now?
  15. T

    Good Wood

That seems doubtful, unless Beachy goes on a run for the rest of the year.

    Strength of this year's team

    Yep. NL 2B: .251/.311/.376 Uggla: .186/.307/.389

    Good Wood

So, figuring that Minor/Teheran/Medlen are locks... who's the 4th on the postseason staff? Beachy or Wood?

Did We Give Up on Juan Francisco Too Soon?

Ok, guys... the difference between .285 and .300 over 550 AB is about 8 hits. Negligible difference. It's like none of you have seen Bull Durham. Personally, I think predicting anything from .270-.310 for the dude is reasonable.

Did the Braves miss the boat on IF Depth?

Damn, you weren't kidding. NL 2B for the year are barely hitting better than SS's. And fielding way worse (relative to position). NL 2B: .251/.311/.376 NL SS: .254/.309/.370

Did We Give Up on Juan Francisco Too Soon?

Having only watched 20% of the games this year, I have to say that he looks like a statue to me, but when he gets his hands on a ball he doesn't frequently eff it up.
