Viz and Teheran listed as top trade candidates

If you don't understand excess value and how it works in trades than I don't know what to tell you.

Viz and Teheran listed as top trade candidates

if $80 -$100 million in excess value through 2020 is "overrating" then what would you accept as true value??? $80m in excess value is a top 5 prospect in all of baseball type of value and if we require and overpay it will take that plus another piece. So asking for Moncada is NOT "overrating...

    2017 #1 Pick watch!

That's why I think they should consider trading Calhoun, Simmons and, GULP, Trout. It would sadden the fanbase and all that, but IMO, it's the only way they can quickly rebuild their farm system at the upper levels and not be stuck in mediocrity for years. I know there's pretty much no way...

    Sucking sucks

This demonstrates a fundamental misunderstanding of the state of the modern baseball business and how to win without wasting big money in free agency. You seem to think it's fine we stockpiled young pitching and ignore the large amount of young hitting we have (Swanson, Albies, Riley...

    Sucking sucks

No kidding, I may be a snarky a-hole, but at least I'm optimistic of the team's future!

How Many World Titles Would We Have

maybe we would have had zero! The playoffs are too random to say "xyz" means championships as there are just so many variables and it relies so much on BABIP and hit sequencing. If you threw the worst teams into this 2 WC playoff system as an experiment we would expect one of them to win every...

    2017 #1 Pick watch!

well, they have a lot of mediocrity, Trout and Calhoun on offense, and the 28th ranked pitching staff in MLB! their entire starting 5 is mostly hurt and aside from Shoemaker (who I think was sent down for a bit) they aren't doing much. Heck, their offense is at 10.4 WAR and Trout + Calhoun...

7/3 SUNDAY MINORS FINAL: A trul;y wretched, gawdawful off. day

I think when you consider Riley's age and power he has to be mentioned has having the potential as well. Cumberland too per his bat (if he can stick at catcher). I'm not ready to look at a bad K rate at age 19 and cast a guy off already. Not in the lower levels.

7/3 SUNDAY MINORS FINAL: A trul;y wretched, gawdawful off. day

I was talking about overall value tho, not just offense. Inciarte and Freeman are the only two guys who project over 2 WARover 600/PA's, the rest project at or below 2. If we can get a couple more 2's and add a 3 and a 4+, we'd be in pretty good shape.

look down that list to the top 30 though, a lot of em turned out to be great players!

7/3 SUNDAY GDT: Braves, Marlins vie for Bragging rights

I was worried about making him a relief arm because he is a finesse pitcher. Those guys don't tend to translate to the pen too well. I think they should keep him a starter and put him back in the minors to work on his stuff. The pen doesn't seem to be his forte'.

but his power was up then.... IDK, Bourn was older too tho. I think at 28, BJ 5/$75 is not any worse than Bourn at 30 at 4/$48 (thing is, neither deal ended up working out, but thus are the risks of big money free agency) funny how $15m AAV now is what avg guys are getting. man times change...

    2017 #1 Pick watch!

really? I mean, I would love to end up with Moncada and some pieces for him, but IDK if they are gonna go that route. I tend to think they are gonna go more Rich Hill shopping.

Actually he was the #1 CF'er on the market and was worth, at the time of his signing, around $24m AAV due to his prior performance. We may have paid more than other teams offered, but considering his age, AAV and prior numbers , nobody who follows this stuff closely was alarmed by the deal...

7/3 SUNDAY MINORS FINAL: A trul;y wretched, gawdawful off. day

Indeed, and you never know what a guy is going to end up as at MLB. Some guys excel, some guys fail, some guys end up exactly what it appeared they'd be. I see no reason that Peterson shouldn't get a shot out there after 2017, lawd knows we could use a cheap power bat.

Viz and Teheran listed as top trade candidates

I agree, if your team is in the playoff hunt and you are a starter away from making a world series run, as the Red Sox are with their bats, you make that move. Especially if that starter has cheap control years to come. I wouldn't trade my #1 prospect for a rental, but JT is controlled until...

7/3 SUNDAY MINORS FINAL: A trul;y wretched, gawdawful off. day

Umm, right now, we have a bunch of below average starters and Freddie and Inciarte. Jace is working his way there to avg, but I want to see him sustain his hitting for a bit longer.

    Movie Thread

so, the Independence Day sequel...... well, it has all the cheese of the original and not much of the fun. The story and plot are a little.... weak is about as nice a way to put it. They seriously miss Will Smith's antics and though they brought back the Goldblum, he isn't given much to do...
