The opposite really. He's been extremely averse to moving higher ceiling prospects. The Murphy injury situation has definitely made the Contreras trade look like a stinker.

    2025-2026 offseason thread

We knew when all the extensions were made that the Braves had essentially committed to a core and that the injuries to and aging of the core would for all practical purposes determine whether then won or lost. I think there was a split as to which extensions were good and which were not but at...

I thought there were lots of good starting pitchers who wouldn't have to be paid very much, lol.

If he's not good enough to be here then why would you want to pay him? if the Braves DFA and he opts out then I guess no harm, beyond what he's entitled to. But if he opts in then if it's a good deal according to market he'd get claimed, a bad deal he'll pass waivers. Sort of seems like...

I'm not sure signing a guy that wouldn't make the roster and that makes too much money for any other teams to claim off waivers has to be a win-win. This is essentially a kind of player option right? Refuse the assignment if he can make money. Take the assignment if you're washed and get paid.

to some degree the die is cast with the rotation and the rest of the team's injury risk. They put together their team and now they got to live with it. I do think it's obvious they need at least one SP of average or better quality, but there just isn't a realistic way of protecting...

    A promise has been made.

These days the propaganda is all about marijuana not only being harmless but a medical benefit. That's horseshit. There is zero research suggesting it's more effective than other prescribed drugs for anything. But hey. I do not care if people smoke, I might partake if offered, but it's not...

    2025-2026 offseason thread

I do not really see how there is a lot of information to go on as far as the extent of the budget, but generally speaking the Braves don't love feee agency. In my mind, the trade for a somewhat expensive utility man this early suggests some money to work with. But who knows? We'll find out.

I suspect there will be a second expensive reliever signed.

The first paragraph was so calm and rational to open the reader up to the nuclear blast of the second paragraph. Grade A troll. Good job.

Bichette is prettty young. He's probably the guy it would make most sense to sign if you were doing a premium free agent thing. The bat still plays at second and you could probably have a whole late inning plan in place for a year. ... if the defense really bothered you.

Not sure the SS has to be a good hitter. Even Kiner-Kaleb's would be an upgrade. Isn't there some non-contender with an average, veteran SS out there?

Agree. A cheap mid-rotation starter is not something that should be traded I don't think. Particularly when health and rotation depth is a weakness.

NL Rookie of the Year Watch

Can you imagine if the Braves beat writers voted for someone else and it cost them the award? Basically writers should not vote on these if there is something at stake is the upshot.

    2026 Payroll

I guess. Maybe he doesn't want to sign an OF or a DH like he didn't say and he plans to let the pitchers hit this year. We can't rule it out.

It could also be because he has multi-year commitments to 3 starting OFs already and either doesn't feel like he should list backup OF as a major need or doesn't think it's politic to advertise that he is looking to replace one.
