    Official Around Baseball 2023 Thread

They nailed it with the Battery as well. I was afraid it was going to be like Ballpark Village in St Louis, with one building with a few duplicative bars and attractions. The environment before a game in the Battery is outstanding.

GDT 6-11: EIGHT Days a Week. Elder brings the Broom!

Agreed. As currently constructed this team's biggest need is a competent middle infielder for the bench. We are an injury away from replacing Ozzie or Arcia with Grissom, Shewmake, or Culberson. None of those should be getting meaningful at-bats (or, in the case of Grissom, defensive innings)...

GDT 5/23 STRIDER: I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger

Olson is streaky. He always has been. Look at the way he ended last year, or the way he began this year. It would be nice to have the consistency of Freeman. If Freddie would have signed the better deal offered then Olson wouldn't be an issue for us. I believe there is something to the...

GDT 5/23 STRIDER: I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger

Doubtful. Let's see how this comparison looks when Freddie is 36 and 37. Freeman may indeed defy Mother Nature and perform up to the level he's being paid for well past his prime, but it's still not a smart bet to assume that will happen.

    GDT 5/13/23: Braves @ Blue Jays - No 2 C Lineup Today

This is what needs to happen. He went down after struggling early in 2021 and came back a beast down the stretch. His bad start to that year was very similar in that his peripherals were way better than his actual results. At this point it's probably more in his head than anything else.

GDT 5/12/23: Braves @ Blue Jays - Midseason Maple Syrup Run

Love the two catchers plan. Will we put the second behind the first in case of wild pitches?

    GDT: 05/07 O's @ Braves: Return of Ar-See-Ya

d'Arnaud played 21 games at 1B for the Rays in 2019. It wouldn't hurt to play him over there a game or two to spell Olson.

GDT 4-24: Strider is the STOPPER.

Maybe that's the problem. I imagine he's nowhere near as effective when throwing with his off arm.

GDT 4-24: Strider is the STOPPER.

Exactly. Probably not good enough to start for an extended period of time, but has enough lightning in his bat that he can get hot during a starter's IL stint. As someone who clearly remembers Darren Bragg and Ryan Langerhans, this holds a lot of value.

GDT: 4/18 Braves @ Padres: Strider after getting chewed out

Robo umps wouldn't cost the umpires one single job. All it would do is automate the ball/strike calls to the same zone regardless of hitter or pitcher. There would still have to be a plate umpire for all the other responsibilities that cannot be reasonably handled by technology.

GDT 4/16/2023: Braves @ Royals - Playing our Tromp Card

There really wasn't any reason not to give him a month or so to see if he could rebound. He didn't. It has been nearly three years since Ozuna was a productive MLB player. As soon as a roster spot is needed he needs to be DFA'd, regardless of the money committed to him.

GDT 4/16/2023: Braves @ Royals - Playing our Tromp Card

The shareholders with enough stock to matter almost certainly understand the concept of a sunk cost.

GDT: Braves @ Cardinals w/ a Chip on their shoulder.

It seems like it always takes a little time for his curveball to come around. If his curve isn't working he's average at best.

GDT: Braves @ Cardinals w/ a Chip on their shoulder.

I'd be curious to see these numbers exclusively for left-handed hitters. It seems like having the rover playing in shallow RF would be more of a detriment to lefties than having three IF on the left side for right-handers. Teams are still going to shift as far as possible on ground balls...

3/30 - OPENING DAY VS THE GNATS!

That surprisingly made a lot of sense when I read it. Plus it gets one road trip out of the way when they've already been away from home for several months.

Manfred will probably start adding a penalty run for the opposing team to discourage injury timeouts.

Might have been better with the abbreviated version of his first name included.
