I don't suspect our top 5 pitchers will throw 25+ starts. But Elder is currently pretty far down the totem pole for extended starts, and that's before we sign/trade for another SP like AA claims he is looking for.

That isn't necessarily a good thing. Maybe Sale can be replaced internally if one of the young guns hit. But that's a big task. And we still need a more permanent plan for SS and we'll also have to rebuild the pen again.

I don't know that Sandy Alcantara has ever really been an elite SP, even before the injury. 2022 was amazing, but a bit lucky. He's been a mid 3 FIP ERA pitcher (or worse) every other season. If he is cheap enough, I'll surely take him. But we shouldn't be trading anyone of real value for him.
