You could be correct if the Rangers didn’t have a major need for a C in a very thin market for Catchers. Scarcity matters.

Except someone who desperately needs a catcher, believes he will be healthy, and is willing to take a chance. I think the other C options available may make that a chance worth taking for a team like Texas.

It’s not about who gets picked with the pick. It’s about the extra pool money that allows them to try for better guys.

Just saw that the Cease contract includes heavy deferrals.

They will likely end up trading him in a couple of years and eating some money.

Not saying you’re wrong, but you can really identify the worst case scenario for every one of our pitchers. Odds are that some of those things will happen, but hopefully more of them won’t. This could probably be said about pretty much every team in baseball.😀

Glass is always half empty around here. Personally, I am more optimistic than that.

Well, resetting the penalties last year kind of complicates your theory a little bit. I don’t know where payroll is going this year, but I don’t think last year’s numbers really tell us much about this year.

Just means if we want him we have to give him a little sweetener for him to waive it. Players do this with contending teams that might be a fit in order to get a little extra cash. Doesn’t mean it can’t happen, but does make it a little more complicated

Braves Acquire Mauricio Dubon For Nick Allen

The nice thing is that AA really didn’t give up anything for either Dubon or the pitcher from the Rockies (except the salary differential between Dubon and Allen). Keep the tradable guys ready for a bigger addition.😉

Dubon is insurance. I have to believe the plan is for him to be utility, but AA may also be telling the market that he won’t be bullied into overpaying for a SS. They don’t want to play him there, but if nothing else is available, they don’t have to panic.

Wow. Off the rails. Is there somewhere else this discussion might be held?

Clearly they were talking about young pitchers who are ready or near ready for a shot at the majors. Certainly, not all will succeed, but a few will. Most (not all) potential trade partners will be interested in those pitching prospects. They also have a few guys like Elder and Carrasco who...

Tromp is back. Frankly, I like it. Solid backup who can step in when needed and not be embarrassing. I don’t know what it means about Murphy, but I like Tromp.

Well, if he can learn to be more selective about when he goes, and put himself in advantageous positions, this could be a good thing.
