while i do think enscheff probably needs to lay off the horse that is clearly dead, it's pretty clear that's not what he thinks everyone on the board knew the braves needed 1-2 SP going into this offseason and they acquired 0. had they done that, it would suck if holmes and lopez also got...

the players losing the PR war doesn't matter, without them there is no MLB and frankly they lost the PR war a long time ago, it's insane the mental gymnastics the average fan will do to avoid blaming owners for underspending

he doesn't win every year "just" because he pitches and hits, he wins because he is the second best hitter in the game and also pitches like a cy young candidate when he's healthy

I think someone mentioned it a page or two back. to be honest it seems like the value on both sides is too close to get upset about one way or another. the prospects would barely crack the braves' top 30 at best, and contreras' remaining 2/$35 is a hair lower (AAV) than what josh naylor just got.

in that case he could just take the QO and he'd have already nearly matched the $48M in two years instead of four

Regarding Dubon vs Lopez and in light of Enscheff's comment, it's worth noting that Dubon has a career .328 wOBA vs lefties that complements Yaz's platoon splits. Lopez sucked equally against both.

Am I missing something with Ryan? He's consistently solid but hasn't had a season where I'd classify him as a TOR guy.

you're fundamentally wrong though first you're missing the important fact that while murphy's EV going forward is lower than when he signed the contract, the contract is artificially low already because it bought out his final 3 pre-FA years second, his old contract is irrelevant. nobody says...

what are you even talking about, the team can't negotiate with the player but they can negotiate with the player's current team which is exactly what happened with correa, and minnesota kicked in $10 million per year and yes, i do think correa could get 3/60 on the open market

my dude it's ok to admit you're wrong a catcher 2 years removed from a 5 WAR season who has put up more WAR even in his down years than robert suarez is not worth less than robert suarez

On the other hand, the Phillies just agreed to pay Kyle Schwarber, a guy with no position who has hit as well as Seager once in his career, $30 million through age 38. If Seager were a FA this offseason he'd be looking at 6/240 or more

if alonso is getting 5/155 and schwarber is getting 5/150, i'm not sure texas would feel compelled kick in any cash on seager's 6/189 remaining

it's a bit higher than the various FA predictions i've seen, but not so much higher that it'd be a no-brainer, given that he'd have to play for the pirates
