Agree that Montgomery is likely to move somewhere and the cost would be next to nothing (depending on salary split between the teams). Of course, Montgomery really stunk last season and he's 32 years old. He can eat innings when he's healthy but he may be on the severe downside of this career.

And then Chipper stayed in LF for a month in 2004 for DeRosa.

They played a lot of mix-and-match last season especially when Phillips had a rough stretch. Phillips still had the most saves (18), but Hudson had 10 and 11 other guys had at least one save (Vesla had 6). I see the same pattern emerging. I think it can be argued that Yates, Treinen, Scott...

True, but part of me still thinks he wants to empty out a lot of the farm by trading them for established major league players. Braves may have the pieces to pull either or both of Lopez and Correa from the Twins. Pohlads are finally trying to sell the team and often times to accomplish that...

I guess Lucas Luetge wanted more money. Odd thing about Shreve is that his LH/RH OPS splits are identical at .743.

I'm still thinking Jordan Montgomery is in play. One year at $22.5 MM. We send the Diamondbacks a mid-level prospect or two and they kick in $5 MM on salary. Flaherty would be the other guy on the radar in my estimation.

Santander was a guy who I thought would be left standing at the beginning of spring training. I see five years for him as a huge mistake on the part of the Blue Jays.

    REAL FOOTBALL Thread

I'm way old and the thing I've seen the past few years is players just trying to do too much on a play when they should just let it rest. Turnovers have loomed large all playoffs. Add to that some boneheaded plays and play calls by the losing teams and the results haven't been surprising. The...

They really do have to find one more major league-level OF.

Play crappy you lose. The Lions obviously have been hamstrung by injuries on defense, but poor play calling, poor execution, and a bunch of boneheaded plays killed them tonight.

I have several Bob Uecker cards somewhere in an attic in the house I grew up in. Here's one I own (probably not in as good a shape as this one).

It's funny the the second-tier signings (Gil, Lara, Fuentes) have looked better than the top-tier guys. Perdomo was hurt, so he gets a mulligan. Guanipa has done alright. Tavarez, Benitez, and Glod haven't looked good at all (at least with the bat).

And see something generated by AI! I really laugh at all the ridiculous headlines I see on some of the sports news sites. Like a dummy I click and see it's a "projected" trade that has no bearing in reality.

    Looking towards 2025

I'm old. Braves basically have the old Red Sox system that produced guys like Lynn, Rice, Evans, Clemens, etc., and often traded it (sometimes in stupid deals like Bagwell for Larry Andersen). At the same time, the system lacked depth. Problem with the Braves' system at the moment is that...

Baseball America's signing tracker has them signing RHP Randy Reyes and I believe that's the guy you are talking about. It also has them signing two SSs--Angel Carmona and Manuel Campos.

Reasonable price. It's always a roll of the dice with the international signings (see the whole Coppalella class and most of the recent big buck guys) and an extra roll with Cuban players, but the Braves still have $3+ million after this signing to spread around. Big kid for age 16 and wonder...

I didn't read the article, but where's Andrelton Simmons? If they can go back to Charlie Morton's 2002 signing out of the draft, I don't know why Simmons shouldn't be in the discussion.

I think the interesting thing about Schwellenbach is that the Braves really took their time with him after his elbow surgery and managed his innings vey carefully in the lower minors in 2023 before letting him go full-time in 2024. Remember that he also started last season in High-A. Unlike...
