    Offseason Hot Stove 2024-25 Thread

He signed Profar a very imperfect deal—just below market-rate, with some upside but a ton of downside risk. So not sure this plaintive theory actually tracks. I personally prefer a GM that seeks to win every trade, or at least not lose any.

I still think dude can be a dominant late-inning reliever, but the floor seems to be closing rapidly around his future as a starter.

    Bravos sign Profar.

Did you watch the zoom call? He said any addition to the rotation needed to be demonstrably better than Holmes/Anderson, because those guys are out of options. A sight different than saying “we can’t block Grant Homes.”

    Bravos sign Profar.

Reported back in February 2024. He left Boras for the same agency that represents Machado and Tatis, Jr.

It’ll be a Kelenic / de la Cruz platoon, I’d imagine.

He left Boras a year or so ago.

    Bravos sign Profar.

I mostly agree with you here, but two counterpoints would be that most pre-offseason FA predictions have been too low, while Profar’s was close to spot-on, and AA actually saved a few million off the consensus 3/$45m. Nevertheless, the only way this becomes “a steal” is if Profar posts...

Another Twins option, if they’re looking to lop off payroll around the margins instead of the core roster, is picking up Willi Castro, who has value (at $6.4m, final season before FA) for the privilege of paying Chris Paddack, who doesn’t have value ($7.5m, final season before FA). Might have...

From MLBTR: An optioning to AAA probably doesn’t happen if Kelenic really mashes out of the gate, but his reaching his ceiling is looking less likely after 2024. If he’s better in 2025, but not substantially so, I could see the team sending him to Gwinnett after Acuña returns.

It takes two to tango, but I’d prefer Pablo López to Dylan Cease, all things considered. The López+Correa pipe-dream probably dies with this Profar signing, though.

I’d have to think they believe (probably correctly) that letting Alonso go is actually part and parcel of achieving that goal.

    Offseason Hot Stove 2024-25 Thread

I still think the Braves and Twins match up well, especially with the Twins ostensibly wanting/needing to unload salary. The tough spot is figuring out how to accommodate the ~$55m owed to the combination of Correa and Lopez next year—but both could really help the Braves over the next three...

Surely Paredes’ inability to play both positions at once is why the Astros signed Christian Walker.

Jeff Hoffman (for the rotation) seems like a good buy, if he’s seeking a Clay Holmes-esque deal, as reported. Wouldn’t preclude them from going after Scott, either.

Common misconception, actually. He was a truly terrible hitter in 2023, and a truly excellent hitter in 2024. Before those two seasons, he was mostly an average to above-average hitter (pre-2024 career-high wrc+ was 113). Solid numbers, with defensive flexibility; less so if he’s an average...
