Barely eking out his spot over Olson.

    Offseason Hot Stove 2024-25 Thread

The past few offseasons, there’ve been several guys. I’m betting Nick Pivetta and/or Sean Manea land in that group, especially with their QO penalty attachments. On that subject: I still like the idea of picking up one of last season’s “those guys,” in Jordan Montgomery, as long as the...

I’d say Pilar has more of a shot than Cairo. Biggest downside of Pilar isn’t potential/likely performance, per se, it’s that he’s not optionable, as a Rule V pick, meaning he’s a lot less useful-valuable at his likely level of performance.

Any insight on those guys? Seems to be the Rule V phase where the team has actually focused (until this year).

I don’t think Bowman knows what he’s talking about. His “don’t seem inclined” is pure speculation. My speculation is Morton’s asking price might be too high for what the Braves think he can/will contribute.

Suzuki doesn’t think he’s a DH. His strong desire to play on the OF is one reason they’re even considering trading him.

They don’t have info; it’s just speculation. All real information, cited in the article, suggests payroll will increase.

From Bowden, so the grains of salt are Perseids-sized, but: I know the Braves had at least one big pre-commitment for the January 2025 class, but obviously Sasaki would obviate that.

Hopefully Roki Sasaki grew up a Braves fan.

Gray has said he doesn’t anticipate waiving his no-trade clause and would like to stay in St Louis. Ditto Contreras (who’s moving to 1B). Seems only Arenado has the good sense to potentially jump that sinking ship.

Liberty’s John Malone Gives Terry McGuirk More Power With The Braves

The Braves/Liberty might not see that as necessary, given the Braves’ other revenue streams, and those streams’ seeming dependence on fielding a competitive team.

Time-share catcher. And then I’m sure he’d see plenty of DH PAs in 2026, when Ozuna is presumably gone.

Would be unfortunate, and tough to square with Anthopoulos' "I expect payroll will rise again" statement—though he did carefully phrase that as an expectation (full quote, in all its vagueness, below). However, I suppose there is some wisdom to resetting now, if you have faith in the current...

Obviously, Iglesias, Johnson, Bummer, and Lee are quality options. Add Hernandez to that mix and you have five "probable" arms. It remains to be seen how they deploy Holmes, but I wouldn't be surprised if he's in the fifth/sixth/starter starter mix, along with Ian Anderson and AJ...

    Lopez And Bummer Resigned

If the Diamondbacks are willing to attach an asset to rid themselves of Montgomery’s money, then it would make a lot more sense.

    Jorge Soler to the Angels

No way he hits that arb number. Either he signs ahead of arb for around what he agreed to last season (~$2.6m), or they non-tender him and entirely free up the cash. I’m betting this is the best deal, dollar-wise, Anthopoulos thought he could find.
