Early look at the 2018 payroll

That'd obviously be their intention with Acuna ready. Thing is, are there AL teams that have expressed interest?

    Estimating Braves final attendance

If you look around, every team received an attendance bump from new ballparks. Eventually, the novelty wears off unless the team performs. Everybody loves a winner. The only ballpark that's a natural draw is Wrigley Field, WS notwithstanding, fans turned out no matter what happens on the...

What would Ender bring in a trade

That theory got picked on here and self-perpetuates. Ditto with the Mallex Smith and Inciarte were "similar players" talking points.

What would Ender bring in a trade

Pendleton was at peak in Atlanta during 1991, and exceeded all realistic expectations. He signed as FA. That means every other team, who might've needed a 3B, passed on the opportunity. If we relied on The Numbers, his "surplus value" wouldn't have been too impressive by current standards...

What would Ender bring in a trade

Pendleton won '91 NL MVP Award. What did he do in St. Louis that was better?

    Baseball Think tank

Post of the day! Could also add: 11. Freeman and Inciarte should be traded.

Acuna A Finalist For BA's MiLB POY

Very big deal. Wohlers and Andruw Jones (twice) were the only other Braves winners.

Some genius posted this little gem over at MLBTR in the comments.

    Heyman's thoughts on Brian Snitker

Not until now. Notifications are not easy to access from the phone. Plus, a few days ago, a couple members from The Ignored triggered the notifications. So, sorry to have missed it. Don't want to derail this thread too much, esp. with this issued being discussed elsewhere. Think that the...

    Heyman's thoughts on Brian Snitker

We most definitely will see. Meantime, it's not necessary to deflect. Colon has nothing to do with it, although his '17 ERA would present a reasonably accurate snapshot of performance. This, however, is a different matter. It's impress me more if you actually saw either of these individuals...

    Heyman's thoughts on Brian Snitker

Actually, they did have such an owner. After first acquiring the club, Ted Turner fancied himself as sort of a baby Steinbrenner by regularly firing managers. The difference being there was that post-season success did not occur south of the Mason-Dixon. When that strategy ceased...and they...

    Extending Swanson and Albies

Which ever way the wind blows. Weren't you clowns all ready to toss Swanson on the trash heap just a couple weeks ago?

    How did we get here?

Some homerism and cherrypicking there, as with others. Braves fans got too much sense of entitlement during that period, ignoring the fact of just how good the Expos were that year. Their OF was the best in baseball: Moises Alou, Marquis Grissom (think we all know him!) and pre-colorado Larry...

    Luiz Henrique Gohara

It would be interesting to hear from others who've actually seen him pitch. Personally, it'd surprise me if he didn't start the year again in Gwinnett for the reasons that you mentioned (walks). He just throws hard without command of that fastball.

Another focus on pitching in the offseason...This one may be real though

If you don't mind my asking, what makes you believe that Gohara has a greater chance of success than Allard?

    How did we get here?

What a surprise. The braindead "trade Freeman" and "trade Inciarte " posts continue unabated.

    How did we get here?

In much the same way that the Pirates were never the same after Sid's slide, the Braves have never recovered from the Wohlers hanging slider. They were in every game in '99 but never in the series. Plus, there was NO WAY they would have gotten past Montreal in '94 if not for the strike The...

    How did we get here?

It wasn't a strategy, but certainly more than lightning in a bottle. The '97 team was built to compete vs. the Braves...and did. The 2nd time was more fortuitous. Point is that those 2 World Championships are more impressive than just the one with the consecutive division wins...
