    Net Neutrality

I’ll admit I was wrong about the threat of net neutrality legislation on the internet as a whole. Unfortunately I was also wrong about whether or not the internet would be a thing worth protecting to begin with and not a hellscape of AI garbage and idiots posting outrage bait.

A lot of it doesn’t, but when your options for reliable information are Iran, the Mainstream Media and Donald Trump’s Truth Social feed, we weren’t working from a lot.

119th Congress or Red Wave In Adult Land

I do honestly think this shit is really weird and that members of Congress (or Elon Musk for that matter) should not expect to get to do shit with their kids or attendance that would get you fired as a cashier at Walmart. In the year of this lord 2025 I see no issues with proxy voting for some...

While I’m obviously quite against our actions in Iran, this ain’t it. If Trump negotiated a ceasefire that was agreed upon by both parties, it’s wrong to blame Trump.

Why Academics Leftists and Elitists Need to Treat Ordinary Americans With Respect

My point touches on yours about culture, but it’s also that there’s a sudden interconnectedness of the global economy and political structures that I’m not sure is being properly accounted for in the analysis (and creation) of modern policies, and that extends to a lot of the social sciences.

Why Academics Leftists and Elitists Need to Treat Ordinary Americans With Respect

No, I know that. My question isn’t whether or not poverty can be influenced by public policy, it’s the responsiveness to it in relation to the overall national or global environment/economy. In general I question the extent to which we can properly isolate for this.

Why Academics Leftists and Elitists Need to Treat Ordinary Americans With Respect

I will say, I have a hard time not wondering if the causal relationship is distorted a bit here. A lot of the outcomes in the blue vs. red state debate seemingly boil down to wealthy vs. poor states and I’m not fully confident the policies of the state are as much to blame or congratulate as...

That’s cool, I don’t need company here. Nobody is asking me to handle the Middle East, but my beliefs on foreign affairs are sincere and not steeped in Trump Bad, Dems Good.

That’s the only place it’ll be for most of us though. There’s a lot of really, really conservative mayors in rural America, they don’t tend to impact my life any. The mayor of NYC won’t affect yours.

I don’t ever understand the strict adherence to an approach that has shown no success over the past 40 years in the region. If the obvious answers were so obvious, why don’t they ever seem to work? There’s a largely bipartisan consensus in the west that we must be aggressive in geopolitics that...

Basically, I don’t see why this is preferable. Giving Iran money in exchange for cooperation is a good way to build a lasting peace. It’d perhaps be helpful if we were honest and that bottom graphic also featured a giant pile of money, because we spent a whole bunch of it dropping those bombs.

We’re all adults who understand what that “stuff” is, I don’t agree with the position that we have some obvious right to stop them from their nuclear endeavors through military force.

It might, though I’m not willing to grant without evidence that Iran wasn’t open to just not being at war with Israel and a nuclear deal with the United States. If the United States brokers peace by blowing up a bunch of a country’s stuff on so that its ally will stop being at war with that...

So if Iran is indeed willing to just pretend to strike back against us destroying their nuclear sites, am I really to believe they wouldn’t have just agreed to a deal that didn’t involve a bombing? Like what the fuck do we pay Marco Rubio for?

I have to say, I’m silently rooting for Mandani despite my healthy skepticism in hard left economics. I’ve always thought cities are the best places to try bold new ideas because the state government is setting a lot of the overall policy for its citizens. Maybe something will unexpectedly work...

I think the “frauds” in question here are the anti-PC crowd though. The Elons and other tech bros that have no interest in MAGAnomics or nationalism but found themselves on the other side of the culture war or didn’t care about the culture war and found a more willing audience in MAGA.

Do they think voters are either MAGA or not too? Trump doesn’t have a blank check from America to do whatever he wants. Those “frauds” were part of the coalition that led to him winning enough votes to be President. I wouldn’t be so sure swing voters in PA, MI or WI are any less willing to jump...
