GDT: Braves @ Sillies 3/30: Maximus or Maxipad?

That was a beating. It looks like they have bad intentions every day, at least for the Phillies. On a side note, Nola's average season last three years: 10-11, 4.02 ERA. 7 years, $170M? Holy ****, that one's not going to age well.

I'm concerned. Let's see. With the deferrals, Shohei makes $2M. $2M of compensation in California will reach the 37% bracket federal, 13.3% state, although those are marginal, let's say it's 50% just for simplicity...Ohtani brings home $1M/yr, just a little more than we're going to pay...

Every year he does this. Then he ignores the incredible collective intelligence of the group, relying instead on his own mediocre intelligence to do whatever he feels like. Like Trump. Or Snitker.

I think Duvall is a fantastic fourth outfielder option. RHH, power, plays center, $3M, contributed to ring. Perfect! What's not to like?

Kelenic doesn't have pronounced splits either. He sucks against righties or lefties. But, since we're invested, we ought to do our usual thing - give him until Memorial Day to play himself out of his job. Or not. I'll be happy to be wrong.

Not an impressive group. Kind of a bunch of crap. Would have expected at least one top five prospect. The one pitcher with good numbers tops out at 92.

Yeah, I hear you, but sliders and curves tend to turn into slurves. Strider threw one yesterday that was gunned at 83 and said it was supposed to be a slider but was kind of in the middle of the two. I remember telling my kid, "it takes guts to throw a change. But I want you to throw it right...

    Working out our roster

Y'know, it's not en vogue to say anything other than Alex is a genius and all his moves turn to gold, but Jarred Kelenic has 300 Ks in 872 career ABs. Last year, his "good" year, he had 132 Ks in 372 ABs (35%). Yes, Seitzer has had him drop his hands, yes, his performance in Tacoma has been...

He threw the change 7% of the time last year. He had six inches more drop than average on the change last year, around 21%. I thought it was a terrific pitch then, if he'd only throw it. I don't think the slider/curve combo is nearly as effective as one or the other and a well-executed...

I'm gonna guess when Dipoto heard that we would eat Gonzales and White's money and take Kelenic off their hands, he didn't even look at Phillips and Kowar's medicals. He hung up the phone and called the league office before Alex could change his mind.

He threw the change 7% of the time. 10.2 mph difference between average fastball and average change. Horizontal movement was average with the rest of the crowd, around 14.5", but the vertical drop was 23.7", 6.2" more than average. 21% more than average. That's on a par with ... anything...

Yeah, but sometimes you gotta bet on the come. Wheeler had zero 4 win seasons when he signed with Philly, he's had 19.6 WAR in his four Philly seasons, one of which was only 60 games. He certainly looked like a 5-6 WAR pitcher, but seemingly always nicked up. There are guys who get more...

Guys with a slider and curve often end up with a slurve, hard to tell them apart. Myself, I thought he had a good looking change last year, just needed to throw it more.
