    Deferred money deferential

True, as long as they're controlled by Guggenheim, for whom they're almost a toy. It's worth pointing out that the team filed Chapter 11 as recently as 2011, though that was under Frank McCourt's stewardship. And when he sold the next year, he got $2.1 billion for the club. So despite having...

Jesus, are we really talking about scrubs like this? If you're not going to move the needle, keep the money in your pocket. We crapped out pitching-wise the last two years in the playoffs because of Strider's oblique, Morton's finger, Fried's virus and blister. If they're hurt or sick again...

    Deferred money deferential

I agree with this analysis. Ohtani is actually taking an unsecured promise to pay instead of current compensation and if it were secured he would be currently taxed. The tradeoff is that if the promisor (the business) goes under, the deferred comp participant waits in line with the rest of the...

    Deferred money deferential

No, the Doyers make an unsecured promise to pay in the future. The substantial risk of forfeiture means he’s not yet in constructive receipt of the money. As long as they follow this well-established structure, the tax is pushed out until the money is received.

All you guys clamoring for a superutility player, you got him. Plays anywhere on the diamond. Can’t hit anywhere he plays, costs $6M per, but here he is. Assuming the Angels absorbed all of Evan White, I’m okay with it. Hope we can shed Stassi. He’s a nice catcher, so somebody ought to bite...

Remember all that **** about Ohtani wanting to go to a team that wins? Consistently contending for championships? In the last 30 years, Toronto has won one division and made the playoffs 5 times, never a WS. Why not just say you’re following the money?

Soto hit .242 with a .452 SLG in ‘22. Seager, .245/.455. I think the more likely explanation is Morosi is retarded.

M's are trading Kelenic, Marco Gonzales and Evan White to the Braves for something

Making contact is the thing that keeps a lot of guys back. Me. Maybe you. I tease, but of course that's it. I lived in Seattle most of the last decade, and have watched a lot of their challenges up close, and the reason I think this could happen is he did it. He did it for a short time, maybe...

Actually, Pillar himself would be a good Pillar replacement, if he’s down.

Sure. Show him O’Brien sitting over facing the corner ignoring everything with his Beats on and Bowman parked at the first table next to the Crab Rangoon, Sesame Chicken and Fried Wontons at China Buffet, the guy won’t even ask for an opt out clause.

This is correct. Pigs would fly before AA would pay full retail (two way or one way) for Ohtani.

That’s a great idea. And exactly what he needs to do. If you can hit a ball 482’, maybe create that shorter path, hit that pitch 450’ and also hit (or watch) a bunch of pitches you used to wave at.

Now Rosenthal is saying we're not keeping Gonzales. Part of another deal, going somewhere else. Interesting.

M's are trading Kelenic, Marco Gonzales and Evan White to the Braves for something

Yeah, I like the trade, too. Gonzales can help in the short run. I think his option’s a little rich ($15m) to pick up for ‘25, but assuming his nerve problem is cleaned up, he really is a fine back of rotation guy. I didn’t know we’d be shopping in the dented can section for a starter, but...

M's are trading Kelenic, Marco Gonzales and Evan White to the Braves for something

Gonzales slots in as a 4, signed at $12M this year with a to-be-declined option for 2025. He’s got excellent control, a good pitch mix including a decent breaking ball and cutter, a fine change, but quite possibly the slowest four seam velo in MLB. He could eat 180 innings at a 4.00 ERA, which...
