    FG article on Freeman's struggles

I think this is likely, and I hope Freddie wants to be a Brave. We can’t (or, more precisely, won’t) marshal the resources necessary to pay big for his decline years.

    Selling At the Deadline

My recollection is that earlier in the season, it was different. Matzek and Minter were at the top of the league in apps. Recently, seems like it’s rebounded in the other direction.

    Selling At the Deadline

That’s what I felt like about last year vs this year, too. We had some tough luck with knocks to Acuna and Albies, and one huge stroke of bad luck with Soroka’s AT, but so many other things broke our way. We really do need bullpen help. We’ve been overworking the effective guys and throwing...

GDT 6-1 Max on the Mound

I mean that it may cause problems because teams are obviously depending on it/encouraging it, so it may be hard to get them on board.

GDT 6-1 Max on the Mound

Seems like it would be a decent option, because instead of more rules-tinkering it’s technically just enforcing existing rules which have fallen out of favor. On the other hand, if it’s as widespread as I’ve heard anecdotally, it’s going to be hard to do.

GDT 5-31 - Happy Memorial Day ! Charlie on Hump and Almonte gets the call!

I’ve got to give Morton credit for putting a hat on Turner.

GDT 5/25/21: Braves @ Sawx - Snits Blows the Lineup

He’s had a full offseason of lifting, so he should be able to put up better power numbers.

GDT 5/26/21: Braves @ Sawx - Positive fWAR Lineup

Leaving Smyly out there is one thing, but there is just no way to excuse not having anyone warming up in the bullpen. I swear this mf’s brain just short-circuits if he’s asked to make ANY bullpen decision when a starter doesnt dominate through six.

GDT 5/25/21: Braves @ Sawx - Snits Blows the Lineup

I maintain Martin was sulking because Snit blew the lineup instead of the bullpen, like usual.

I guess he didn’t mind gambling with his health.

The whole lineup? (Predictably beaten to the punch by Dalyn)

    Some Red State/Blue State Indicia

I guess I’m a little older than most of the folks pushing the “California is dying” line, because it seems like I’ve been reading the same California Exodus stuff for as long as I can remember. And I guess a certain amount of it makes sense—if living in a place becomes sufficiently onerous to...

Around the League - 2021 Szn

Ozzie through age 30 for $7M per is just so damned good. That’s why ownership needs to get it in gear and spend money to address our weaknesses, because we have two core guys on absurdly team-friendly contracts.

GDT 5/22/21: Pirates vs Braves - A start for Ender

I’ve found that the biggest thing that’s affected my enjoyment of the game has been the nearly universal defensive shifts. Sturg’s point about optimal data creating a worse product is spot on here. I don’t really care about the HR/strikeout dynamic. Never have, particularly. But for me, the...

GDT 5/21/21: Pirates (Anderson) @ Braves (Anderson) - 7:20 PM EST

In soccer, the mentality is more oriented towards respecting your opponent by continuing to compete even if you’re blowing them out. Maybe you pull a couple of your best players and dial back your aggression, but you still take your chances when you get them, because not doing so is considered...
