Hall of Fame Ballot Reveals nears 44 percent

Munson actually played 11 seasons, so he did not need an early death pass. And, by his last season injuries had begun taking their toll, and he probably wouldn't have gotten in, anyway.

Hall of Fame Ballot Reveals nears 44 percent

I don't get all the Edgar love. If you look at the top 10 most similar players you see Moises Alou, Magglio Ordonez, John Olerud, Will Clark, Bob Johnson, Bernie Williams, Paul O'Neill, Lance Berkman, Matt Holliday, Ellis Burks, et al. In other words, guys who won't make the HoF--some of whom...

Paul Casanova Dead; Caught Niekro's No-hitter

No, Menke was long gone from the Braves by 1973. That is likely either 2B Chuck Goggin (who replace Davey Johnson late n the game) or SS Marty "Taco" Perez. It's not 3B Darrell Evans who wore number 11, or 1B Frank Tepidino who was #7. The other bit of trivia is that the Braves beat the Padres...

    Adrian Beltre.... 3,000 hits

Yet Chipper got on base more than 500 more times than Beltre in about 1000 fewer plate appearances. Chipper had a career OBP of over .400 while Beltre is in the .330s. Chipper was the better player.

Maybe so. He was alone, though.

    Official 2017 Trade Deadilne Thread

I just went through security at the Atlanta Airport behind Jace Peterson. Called up or traded?

    Don't look now, but....

The Braves are 40-40 since June 29. First 78 games: 26-52 .333 Last 80 games: 40-40 .500 The easy math aside, that's a pretty significant jump.

    Hello, Atlanta

If I'm misty-eyed about anything it's this: Home: .243/.271/.413 Road: .277/.298/.555 Get him out of the San Diego abyss and he's a dang good offensive weapon, OBP notwithstanding. The other point is that for his career, his walk ratio has been pretty good. The last year appears to be an outlier.

Keith Law ranks Braves system #1 in midseason update

Actually, so are his Major League stat sheets. In 16 seasons in the Bigs, Millwood had 11 seasons with an ERA of over 4.

Who would make your all-time 25 man roster?

I agree completely and make two points; 1) His single best season from a WAR standpoint, is 1973, when his WAR was 8.2. That is tied for the 232nd best of all time among position players. He doesn't have another season in the top 500. 2) He didn't really have a position. He played more games at...

Who would make your all-time 25 man roster?

It's all in fun, but here goes my 5 deep since 1900 (Pick your own 25): C: Bench, Piazza, Berra, Campy, Carter 1b: Gehrig, Foxx, Pujols, Thomas, Bagwell 2b: Hornsby, Morgan, Collins, Gehringer, J. Robinson SS: Wagner, ARoid, Ripken, Ozzie, Vaughan 3B: Schmidt, Mathews, Brett, Larry, Boggs LF...

Ken Johnson, 1966 Atlanta Brave, passes away

Johnson is the only pitcher in MLB history to throw a full 9-inning complete game no-hitter and lose the game. All others were either 8-inning efforts, or combined with a reliever. His was the first no-hitter where the game was lost in any form and still the only one in any form in the NL.

    RIP Milo Hamilton

One other example. In his first two seasons in Atlanta, Larry Munson was the #2 guy in the booth. A few years back when Munson was still alive, he was on one of the sports talk shows in Atlanta as a guest, and it just so happened that the Astros were in town. Right before a commercial break...

6/23/15: GDT - Atlanta Braves @ Washington Nationals

Speaking of Strasburg, it's nice to see him tonight. The Braves own him.

6/21/15: GDT - NY Mets @ Atlanta Braves

Here's the thing: Yeah, we have blown some leads in the 6th and 7th inning, but so has every other team. The other thing is that our record in games TIED in the 6th and 7th innings is actually quite good, and the bullpen has a large (positive, in this case) influence in those games. As I...

6/21/15: GDT - NY Mets @ Atlanta Braves

Agree they might not have, if for no reason other than Papelbon is making 13m per season with a vesting option for 2016 if he finishes 24 more games this season (which he will easily do, absent an injury).

6/21/15: GDT - NY Mets @ Atlanta Braves

Of course, if the Braves could have gotten Papelbon for Gosselin, they might well have pulled the trigger on that one.

Also bbref has our bullpen as a combined minus 1.8 wins vs. the league average. http://www.baseball-reference.com/leagues/NL/2015.shtml

6/21/15: GDT - NY Mets @ Atlanta Braves

Let's look at the actual numbers. Before today the Braves were 19-9 in games they led entering the sixth inning. That's a winning % of .679 as compared to the NL average of .829, which would translate to 23-5, so we'd be minus 4 by that analysis. BUT when you also consider games tied after six...

Braves acquire RHP Touki Toussaint & Bronson Arroyo for Filthy Phil Gosselin

You didn't just say that, did you? You "should of" said "for all intents and purposes".
