How Would You Fix the Playoffs?

If they aren't going to reseed, they should ignore division titles for the purposes of seeding and go by straight record. This wouldn't have changed anything in the NL this year, but it would have made a difference in the AL as Tampa Bay would have been the two seed hosting while MIN would have...

    Murphy War Crimes

I'm guessing that's how it goes, with Elder in game three. If we are down 0-2 by that one we may see someone go on the IL to allow us to bring Charlie back.

Max threw 76 pitches yesterday. We probably won't see him until game two.

It would have been the ultimate troll if Snit had played Ronald at 2B today in the open scrimmage.

GDT - 9.27: Game 2, Cubbies at Bravos - Seiya later, Chicago!

I'm thinking Enscheff may have forgotten that the Braves are now a publicly traded corporation. Some here may actually own a minuscule fraction of the team. Does the possibility of earning a three cent dividend change the "we" versus "they" debate in any way?

Balls-in-play without context shouldn't be irrelevant though. Maybe adding a component to incorporate exit velocities would make the stat better. Some pitchers are more prone to hard contact than others. If those same pitchers happen to strike out a lot of batters/walk a relatively low number...

GDT 9/21 vs Nats Game 1

It's kind of crazy that most of us (including the scouts) had him pegged as a possible batting champ/consistent .300+ hitter with speed and little power.

GDT 9/18/23: Braves vs Philthies - Getting Wright with Acuña Back

We know this team doesn't recover from hangovers very well. It took them until June last year to recover from the World Series victory.

Seven years though? He seems like a perfect fit for Philly, maybe even the Mets. Let them bog down their payroll even further. I have no doubt he can still hit, but don't expect him to be worth anywhere near the remaining value on his contract even if he's relatively healthy.

A bounce back wouldn't have surprised me, with bounce back defined as getting to an .800-ish OPS. Doing it on the level Ozuna has since essentially May 1st was a shock.

I don't think any of us had Ozuna replicating his 2020 season from May 1st on. Definitely a pleasant surprise.

    Rome Braves 8/24 (Kyle Wright)

Not going to set myself up for disappointment by expecting anything out of Wright or Nick Anderson this year. If they return at anything close to their best I'll be pleasantly shocked.

As you've stated the data is pretty clear on the value (or lack of) of the stolen base. On the other hand, what is the explanation for the Cardinals teams from 1982-1987 or so being so good? They would literally have one guy capable of hitting the guy out of the ballpark more than...

The guy from Tennessee that flipped the bird to visiting fans after HRs? He'll fit in perfectly as a Met. Easy to cheer against.

Are the Mets dumb enough to take on a guy with shoulder issues? I'm a fan of Wright if he's got the chance to get healthy again, but would do a deal involving him for JV due to the risk. Shoulders have a nasty habit of never getting back to full strength.

    OT Immaculate Grid

I blew it this morning by trying to do it without my reading glasses. Was going to pick Tony Armas for OAK 100 RBI, but clicked the first instance of that name to come up, which ended up being Tony Armas Jr.

    Immaculate Team?

I think you nailed it here. Ohtani is that good at both because he was allowed to continue to do both in Japan while he was developing as a player. In the U.S. he would have been forced to choose by the minor leagues at the very least, and likely well before. Tim Hudson is one I think could...
