    Official 2024 Off-Season Thread!

The AAA guy seems like a very Braves play. Someone with very recent success and some tools to back it up. Not a bad flyer for a cheap fourth of.

Yes, that's frustrating for the many players who were good for a decade and told it was not enough. It's pretty arbitrary who gets the benefit of doubt on a short prime.

Yeah, Waters was the first one who came to mind.

Not a forgone conclusion, but also not a black swan event.

Also Montgomery is a SC boy and seems like a Brave anyway and is trying to leverage a small sample playoff run into big contract. Always felt like he was a real possibility.

Sounds like a pretty great idea though it might constrain the deadline moves.

Five years later: John Sickels top 20 braves prospects for 2019

Well actually 1% is a fairly likely outcome is really stretching the bounds of semantics and is not what the folks suggesting that seemed to be trying to convey. Basically they want to be correct about their old assessments uttered very confidently and suggest that the Lord made a miracle and...

    AA Extended through 2031

Spoiler: they won't make a serious run at Soto.

1% is basically saying it was unforseeable it would ever happen. That's not accurate here.

Well done. Sometimes folks get all wrapped up in what they thought. This outcome might have been high end but it wasn't something completely out of all expectation.

Or the upside was simply underestimated and you didn't actually see a 1% event.

    International Prospect Signing Rumors

Wouldn't you have to get the top prospect one year in a row before you could do it twice?

Odd enough they do not really convert them very often even after they give up on them as starters.

He was the big guy with supposed attitude issues? I thought that guy might turn into a good mlb'er too.

Braves trade for Chris Sale - Grissom going to Red Sox (Extension through 26 at 18M)

I didn't understand the math in the MLB rumors column. It said that th3 Braves had a 27.5m CBT number offset by the 1 from the Sox, and that now that's reduced to 2m. So to me that suggests they shaved about 8m from the cap figure. But it was clear as mud.

I would guess part of their discussion with Lopez was giving him a shot at competing for rotation. No harm in seeing what it looks like. Also AJSS certainly deserves the right to compete. Also good to motivate Elder.

Braves trade for Chris Sale - Grissom going to Red Sox (Extension through 26 at 18M)

He's probably going to give him a normal workload in games for the era we are in. I'd say the front office might be involved in planning to get him extra rest, but I don't think they should put a 60 pitch cap on him or anything like that. Give him a normal workload and be very conservative...

Braves trade for Chris Sale - Grissom going to Red Sox (Extension through 26 at 18M)

I think when you look at the realistic risk and limited ceiling on the old dudes and then understand you're paying market rate for multiple years that figure to decline making a one year cash commitment Kelenic and a one or two year commitment to somebody who is a top 15-20 starter when healthy...

    Official 2024 Off-Season Thread!

Some of them operate the teams as businesses and collect yearly income. That's really the point of it all. Asking someone to manage their own asset a particular way is fairly presumptuous. Especially to ask someone to operate in the red because you think they ought not care about money.
