/10/2015 WEDNESDAY MINORS FINAL ... Joe T's back!(????)

Quietly Connor LIen is having a solid season as a 21 year old in A+.

The bb/k ratio is awful but wasn't this kid billed as a high ceiling toolsy guy?

Lien is Exhibit A of how some of Wren's decision-making process in the draft wasn't totally flawed. Lien, like Grosser, was a guy drafted on his tools at a point where they knew they'd have to shell out a bit to get him. Wren for the most went production over projection early and the projection over production later.

Lien's primary problem seems to be that he makes Jeff Francoeur look patient by comparison, at least this season. His walk rate, while not high, was better at the lower levels. Good thing about Lien is that he can play CF. Always a plus.

I noticed that someone had posted about Mallex's unsustainable BABIP numbers. Is it possible that his speed is such that they are somewhat sustainable, or is some significant regression inevitible?

He is going to have a high BABIP by nature of his skill set.

The key for him to sustain his offensive value is to decrease his strike outs and maintain his walk rate around 10%.

The strikeouts are the only thing that give me pause about his ability to transition to the big leagues.

He won't be able to sustain a .400+ BABIP like he can in the minors but I think a .340-.360 BABIP is possible in the Majors because of his skill set.

Dustin Peterson is 2 for 4 with a double and 3 rbi's tonight.

Kid has a chance to be something special for us!

I think you need to ease up on that a bit. He has a chance to be a decent LF for us. Not sure I agree that he's going to be something special. Mallex Smith has a chance to be special.

2 walks for Lien tonight. Shocking.

I have no proof... but I'll bet a decent sum of money that thethe made similar comments about prospects like Kubitza, Terdo, and even Kyle Wren

I remember Joey T inspiring some extravagant projections during his outstanding High A season. But I'm sure thethe was one of the voices cautioning against overvaluing prospects, as he always is.

I was a fan of Terdo but never said he was anything more than just an average everday player. He was always age appropriate or slightly older for his league while Peterson is younger and has a better pedigree.

Interesting thing about him: He's been getting BETTER at each level he moves up. His best season yet is coming in the high-minors. Has to be a good sign.

It is interesting. Remember he wasn't overmatched in ST either. I don't see how he isn't pretty highly rated going forward. In a big year for testing an upcoming prospect he has smashed the test and broken wide open.

He was also playing hurt for a few weeks which has superseded his overall priduction. This kid will be a top 100 prospect easily
