Lien had a rough AFL, but for me it doesn't douse his hot season. Has offense been down this year in the AFL?

Good to see from Winkler. I think that's where he settles in at the MLB level. 3.50 ish ERA.

I think The Fonz ends up with a better ERA than 3.50 at the MLB level but mainly because of his use. I see him as a valuable situational righty with that delivery. If everything hits right, maybe he could be a set up man but as a guy who comes in and can get some key right handed hitters out, I think he ends up with artificially low ERAs.

You think EVERYONE ends up in the Bp.

Not really. I'm generally for keeping guys in the rotation as starters are generally more valuable. For example, I really want the Braves to do everything they can to keep Folty in the rotation. He's got the ability to keep his velocity up late into games. That's huge for a starter. I'm usually only a fan of shifting guys to the pen when they are either terrible starters or they look to have more potential out of the pen. I'd rather have a guy be a good setup man than a mediocre number 4 starter.

I think Winkler ends up in the pen largely because of that arm angle and a lack of pure stuff. He's a side arming right hander who relies on deception and movement; those usually end up in the pen. He's been much tougher on right handers than lefties in his career and I would expect that to be more extreme in the majors. I could see Winkler being a reliever that is devastating to right handers but who struggles with lefties. If he can just be okay against lefties then he could end up as a set up man.

I agree though. Winkler is a future solid bullpen arm for us starting this year. We obviously have a lot of SP depth coming through the minors and he doesn't have the upside as a good amount of our other arms. I think his stuff and deceptive delivery could make him an asset in the pen

It is bad news for Lien, IMO... yes, he had a hot breakout season... but if you look under the surface, he had a sky high BABIP that is just not sustainable. If you look at a lot of the peripherals, he was better last year, but not near as good as the surface stats look.

lol. No, Wisler would not be a good reliever. It's either rotation or nothing for him.

Wisler would be fine in the pen. He would get a tick on his fastball and his slider. Easier to throw a plus slider as a reliever. Anyone who can start can relieve. Makes no sense to say a guy can only start or nothing else.
