BA's updated Top 100 is out.

26. Michael Chavis
31. Braxton Davidson
32. Jacob Bukauskas
34. Forrest Wall
41. Michael Gettys

My best guess is that we take Chavis if he slides. If not, I think it comes down to Wall and Gettys and I think we take Gettys.

Bukauskas and Wall are both UNC commits (as is Davidson), and Bukauskas has already sent scouts e-mails telling them not to bother - that he intends to go to Chapel Thrill for now. Wall is the highest ranked 2B in the draft and draws Ackley comps - potential 65 hit tool and consistently posts 70 times to 1B. He may eventually have to move to CF though. Chavis and Gettys are Georgia kids, and Gettys committed to UGA. Gettys offers huge upside that matches the huge questions - the only thing missing is the hit tool, so he's the huge risk-reward type.

If we're going to reach with the first pick, my guess is that they go get Mac Marshall (#53) from Parkview High in Lilburn.

If I know anything about the braves drafting habits if they have pick 25 or so they will draft someone ranked from 40-50 by BA. Braves are really into college arms with low mileage on their arms like Hale and Hirsch right now too.

Edit - and if you want a 2b look at SS prospects. Almost all current 2b in the majors were SS. If they are not good enough to play SS in hs/college its a really bad sign.

After some very college oriented drafts (2009, 2010, 2011), we've been increasing the number of high school kids we've signed and drafted. Will be interesting to see if the trend continues. I hope so because generally high school kids have more upside/risk than the college kids.

Pick #32.

I don't think they'll concentrate on any one position. I think we're really thin when it comes to top drawer prospects (especially on offense), so I'm hoping they take a couple of relatively high-ceiling kids. Of course, that's not working out to well with Justin Black and Connor Lien. Always happy when they take a lot of pitchers with big-time fastballs.

I didn't like signing Santana but he's been wonderful so far. I really miss that pick though. Having said that I really hope we draft Jacob Bukauskas regardless of what he said about wanting to go to college.

Of all those I mentioned, Bukauskas is the one I'm most leery of. I think his tune might change if he's still around and the Braves take him as well, but I'm with those that think he ultimately turns out to be a RP at best. He's awfully small with little room left for projection, and is a max-effort guy already.

All I know is I would be shocked if the Braves didn't take a pitcher. Who's the best available talent who's already had TJ surgery once?
