50 States 50 Bands

Project I've been thinking about for awhile. Well list more than project.

I'm gonnna list in my opinion either the best or in my opinion most impactful band from a particular state, or just my favorite whatever I damned well feel like doing. One video per post, gonna go alphabetical as well. Hopefully I'll have this done by Tuesday at the latest.

I define a band as a group of people playing instruments. No boy/girl bands, no rap artists, so on so forth.

Alabama

Fully admit, Alabama was a tough one for me. Some amazing musicians from Alabama, but they either don't fit the band part or just parts of the band (like say Drive By Truckers) are from Alabama.

Small states are super hard Alaska is no exception. Heard about this band from a pen and they're pretty bad ass.

Arizona

Meat Puppets are so important to me in my musical development. Backwater is maybe my favorite song by that band. It's one of the key songs in my development as a guitar player

California is one of those states that's so hard because of so many legendary bands come from California. But I'm gonna go with one of the early stars

Maybe the best song off their most important album, I could come up with a dozen arguments for other bands, but I think no band signifies California the way the Beach Boys did and they were great.

Colorado is another one of those states that doesn't have a ton of pickins. But **** you John Denver I'm still not picking you. Instead I'll pick an interesting blue grass band.

**** you John Denver.

Connecticut was about one of the easiest ones in my research, only one band who started there that I care about.

Delaware is another gimme for me. Only one act I care about

I picked this song, because there's no better song to get wrecked to.

Florida has a lot of quality acts from it. Pretty much most of southern rock's biggest acts came from there, but for me the greatest band from Florida is

With a literal stable of hits to pick from this is easily the most listenable song by Petty.

Oh Georgia, many great acts, Ray Charles, James Brown, and Otis Redding are some of many amazing musicians to come from the state, sticking to the band theme, though from Florida this is my pick

Other bands were in heavy contention as well, like REM, Drive By Truckers and others.

Ok I legit couldn't find anything in my arsenal from Hawaii, so I'm gonna cheat for that and pick the one song I could find in a google search that I enjoy

SOrry for cheating, but I guess I'm allowed a few mishaps.

Illinois, another great city. Jazz, so much amazing Jazz came through Chicago. Amazing bands have come from there as well.

Went with Smashing Pumpkins over a number of other bands again because of influence over me. Their first 3 albums were pretty interesting. Siamese Dream was amazing one of the great albums of the 90s.

Indiana another great home for Jazz. But there's no contest in Indiana

No real contest Maybe a little cheating as the feature members didn't play all the instruments.

Kentucky I could have gone a few ways. I decided to go the rock route and it came down to 2 bands, My Mourning Jacket and Cage the Elephant, given the weird concert moments involving My Morning Jacket I slid to Cage the Elephant

Louisiana is another like California or Georgia or Florida above, so many amazing acts. But to me nothing says Louisiana like New Orleans, and nothing says New Orleans like old school Jazz.

I went with this recording because it crams 2 of the biggest New Orleans Jazz icons in King Oliver and Louis Armstrong.

Maryland, OK cheating again. I love Frank Zappa too much to leave him off and Maryland is pretty weak. So **** you

While The Dropkick Murphys may be th emost pro-Mass band, Aerosmith is probably the most famous, but this one was easy for me.

Classic song, just so amazing.
