8-23-13 Braves at Cards

He's not the first Braves starter to complain about that.

it's why I'm against the 100 + 5 pitch count he gives guys.

I think some guys stress their arm more because they know they'll get pulled, so they try and gas what they can left because they know Fredi won't let them go that much more over 100.

Protecting an arm is one thing, it can also backfire. These guys are competitors and they don't like being taken out when the game is on the line and most of htem don't want the bullpen to clean up their mess. If you're someone like Medlen and it's the 7th inning and you're at 91 pitches and a runner gets on, you're thinking you need to get out before Fredi forces you so you start over pitching and next thing you know you give up another run.

OMG Charlie Morton got pulled in the 8th, he only had 83 pitches and given up one run. Horrible manager on those Pirates....

Things that are different:

It isn't a habit. Pitchers for the Pirates haven't complained about it because it is so bad. They had the lead. Tying run at the plate. It was the 8th. And they are in a fight for a playoff spot.

Can't believe Medlen went public with those comments (regardless of whether or not they are accurate.)

Watching the game replay...I have grown extremely weary of thin skinned, arrogant, self absorbed umps like Paul Nauert, Sam Holbrook, Jim Joyce and Wally Bell who aren't happy unless they make their mark on the game. No one pays to see the umps call the game. STFU and let the guys play, and quit acting like everything that anyone says or does is an intentional effort to show you up. This time of year, let the best team win. Your egotistical efforts can and do alter the outcome of the game. A$$holes. Obviously the union isn't gonna do a damn thing to discipline these guys, and that's a shame. Don't know how they sleep. Sorry for the rant, thanks for your indulgence. Hope they get it all out of their system now before playoffs start.
