AJ had a season OPS of .769, while Brian McCann had an OPS of .759 playing all of his games in one of the leagues best parks for left handed power hitters... And I was ridiculed for saying there wasn't much difference between the two.
IIRC, the argument was about defense. AJ is an awful defender and pitch framer, while McCann is pretty good at both. And McCann hits a ton of homeruns and walks, while AJ's OBP is almost entirely BA driven. If I had to wager, I'd say this was a flukish season offensively for AJ.
So, no, they're not really close.
Well the argument was that the only thing McCann is significantly better in was the offensive department... and considering McCann fell off a cliff the second half of the year, that's even in question.
