An Apology from the Millenials

+1 on the video. I'm fortunate to have gotten a good paying full-time job pretty much by accident. It's not in my field of study or anywhere close to it. Even so, I've still got lots of student loans and am years away from paying it off. Buying a house anytime soon is not happening either.

Video was hysterical but you can still succeed if you work hard.

I don't think anybody is questioning that, it's just all about the irony that makes the video.

I could go on and on about how millenials get blamed for tons of things we have no control over.

Oh yeah...boomers were the worst. They were the true entitled ones benefitting from the hard work of the prior generation

I don't know if that depiction is entirely fair. We've had it the easiest in many respects due to the vast markets that opened up in our lifetime that made economic success more attainable (I would say the Silents who preceded us benefited more and contributed less), but we lived in tumultuous times (Vietnam, Civil Rights, Women's Rights, *** Rights, Nixon in all his glory, the Carter years with all their naivete). There's no question that we've been cultural imperialists who have rammed even the subpar products of our generation down the throats of subsequent generations without heed to taste or excellence, but we didn't have a free ride either. While the boomers are the first generation with a significant number of individuals with suburban roots, many of us came from small town and rural (rural for me) settings that required a lot of adjustment to a changing economy and demography.

But again, there was a lot more opportunity then because if one could get ahead of the change and ride the wave, success was realizable. Add to that the fact that technology hadn't eliminated a lot of entry-level jobs, there was always the opportunity to get in the on ground floor of larger enterprises and work your way up. Now, entry level positions are at a much higher level (unless you want to do cold calls to widows seeking them as investors).

More than anything, we were products of a consensus society and I think Millenials have paid dearly as that consensus has become increasingly brittle.
