POSITION PLAYERS

BEST PURE HITTER: 3B Austin Riley (1s) entered his senior spring with more buzz as a pitching prospect, but he proved himself with his righthanded bat, and showed the ability to make adjustments when he got to pro ball. Riley could develop into a plus hitter. » BEST POWER HITTER: Riley has plus power and he already shows an ability to use it in games. In the Appy League and GCL, Riley swatted 12 home runs and slugged .544 in 60 games. » FASTEST RUNNER: OF Justin Ellison (12) has plus speed; he’s a lefthanded hitter who can get from the batter’s box to first base in less than 4.1 seconds. His speed also plays well in center field, as he runs well under way. » BEST DEFENSIVE PLAYER: The Braves added one of the best defensive catchers in the class in C Lucas Herbert (2), the battery mate of their first selection, LHP Kolby Allard (1). Herbert’s pro debut was cut short by a meniscus tear, but he returned to the field for instructional league this fall.

I think most people here know who the top pitcher is. One revelation I will share is that closer-in-the-making Chase Johnson-Mullins has kept growing: he's now 6-foot-9.

Mullins kid is a giant. He isn't lanky either. 250+. Another guy that has great pitching numbers out of the pen is a 30 something round pick Matt Custred. He had a low walk rate. A huge k rate and low whip and era. I might edit this with his numbers in a minute.

Ok in almost 33 innings he had a whip of .80. With 46 Ks and 9BB sub 1.38 ERA

Allard is obviously the top pitcher, but it's pretty amazing that Soroka has given someone reason to at least pause before making that claim.

I don't know if they'll ever pitch in the big leagues, but I'll put a Sobotka, Povse, Johnson-Mullins front-line up against any opposing organization on the hardcourt.

The most impressive aspect of this draft to me are the three HS kids they got after the tenth round. Suarez. Hellinger. Keller. All three had impressive debuts.

So I did a little research to see how the Braves 2015 class was doing.. I listed them in order of draft. the guys who didn't sign were obviously left off..the highest draft pick that signed was Matthew Custred in round 31.. but his numbers are really good as you will see...
I also didn't realize that there were more 20ish type guys that the Braves drafted this year.
for the most part, these are some good performances.. there is also a 20 year old catcher who put up an almost .900 ops..

Kolby Allard LHP 0-0 0 era 6 ip 0 bb 12 ks age 18.02
