Braves Acquire Erick Fedde

Because he’s terrible, and it was blatantly obvious after looking at his pitch metrics for 13 seconds. I’m still baffled as to why he was drafted at all.

Hopefully those theories about him mysteriously forgetting how to spin a baseball the moment he became a pro are true and he remembered just as suddenly as he forgot. We will see soon I suppose.
Sec stadiums supposedly have statcast (or something similar). May be the generic version of statcast where AA shops for players

It is hilarious, however, that when he was drafted the scouting press (and one always has to remember that the scouting press is pretty much throwing darts as opposed to doing analysis) thought the Braves had landed one of the steals of the draft and fans from other teams were bemoaning how the Braves had gotten lucky yet again.

Maybe Waldrep remembers something and gets his mechanics straight (or whatever needs to happen) and becomes a contributor. That said, the Braves have been real suckers for college pitchers who somehow have a performance spike and then draft them in the first round (Shuster, Cusick, Waldrep).

He struck out 14 per 9 and 13.8 per 9 his last 2 seasons. The walks were horrible his last season

I'd imagine they'll leave him in the rotation for the rest of the season simply for reps. Then I could see them starting him in the pen next ST.

Anyway, there's no reason to think too deeply about the Fedde move. We need pitchers. Literally need them. We're experiencing a significant shortage of ambulatory human beings who can throw a baseball 60 feet, 6 inches. Fedde can do that and he was (more or less) free. That's all there is to it.

I've linked the scouting reports with spin rates several times for Scheff to peruse. He either doesn't believe them or he simply doesn't read them.

Is it possible the spin data was wrong? Sure. I don't find it likely, but it's possible. It's far more likely the Braves have messed with his mechanics in an attempt to make them more repeatable and give him better command of his pitches (which was poor when he was drafted). His bad mechanics and poor command are pointed out in several pre-draft scouting reports.

And the Braves' drafted Adam Maier, who although recovering from an injury when drafted, has astronomical spin rates that haven't translated. I'm all for the use of various analytical devices when determining a prospect's value, but spin rate doesn't mean crap if you have poor command. I have no idea what has happened with Waldrep. My comment was more directed toward the scouting press and fan bases throughout baseball when the Braves drafted Waldrep.

Now the Braves also have Carrasco. Every SP who is DFA'd will likely be a Brave by the end of 2025. At this point they just need human baseball players who can physically throw the ball towards home plate. It's a dire situation.

Fedde has a really good season last year, so hopefully he figures it out again and becomes our backend guy going forward

I just wish AA would have been honest with himself and the fans and said, I want to reset the tax this year and only going to add pieces around the edges to do so.. that would have prevented the Profar debacle and he could have dumpster dived and no one would have cared. But he made it sound like this team was going to be a juggernaut and then never added any depth to help with that.

I can't stand Maier. Sorry I've watched 5 starts alone this year and it's BP central. He's not unlike Waldrep in that their command is so putrid, good hitters lay off of their bs FB. And I'm not sure why someone hasn't gotten to them and said throw nothing but FB,s until you hit the broad side of a damn barn. At least you know why you're getting your ass handed to you night in and out.

I'd take Ellison Joseph and Lara with no command than most of the more heralded SP'S. Its insane.

Rant over.
