Braves Bad TV deal!

Gwinnett Bound
Can someone explain this tv deal to me. Why can the Braves not pull our or get a better deal? This really sucks.

"The Braves are currently in the midst of a 20-year TV deal that pays them just $10-20 million per season. Atlanta lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the playoffs last year -- a team that makes $280 million a year for its own TV contract. Because of their additional revenue, the Dodgers can afford to pay the $216 million in payroll they did last season. Comparatively, Atlanta's payroll ranked No. 18 in baseball with only $90 million."

Because without a sizeable financial advantage big market teams would actually have to be competent to construct a good team.

The better question is how can mlb take the braves tbs money in the name of competitive balance but not give a **** when teams now get 5 times that much money in tv deals.

What I want to know is why in the hell did the Braves ever agree to such an unbelievably long, inferior and incompetent contract in the first place? Seems incomprehensible.

Makes it increasingly difficult to remain competitive when teams like the Dodgers spend $215MM on one guy, yet we have to go to an arbitration hearing over $300,000 with our starting right fielder. Sad.

It'd be a shock if the difference with Heyward isn't settled. They haven't gone to an actual hearing since Rocker in '01.

Well, if you believe Wren, the only way it doesn't go to a hearing is if Heyward and his agent relent and agree with the figure the Braves submitted. Wren has said he will not negotiate at all going forward.
