Bowman: The Braves have signed Ryan Howard to a Minor League deal. He'll go to extended Spring Training and then likely join Triple-A Gwinnett

Well, this is awkward. He could be a good addition to our bench though.

I'm not so sure this is the Ryan Howard I'm thinking of though... lol

I guess I could buy 1 start every two weeks, primary PH'er, designated DH for interleague games. I guess.

the Fallies are paying him this year, so league minimum to be a bench bat/DH.. why not. Jace/Chase/Bonnie are all still inferior hitter to RH.. One of those guys days are numbered.

It only took Bonifacio striking out one time with the bases loaded for The Genius to realize he needed to upgrade the bench?

Snit used his closer in a tied road game?

We are seeing progress folks! Real progress!

If he winds up with the big-league club, which he probably will at some point, at least we won't have to worry about him hitting a three-run bomb off of us every game. I don't think it's a coincidence he "retired" and the Braves "retired" Turner Field the same year.

We need to try something, though. The bench is horrid. The fact that Bonifacio couldn't destroy a straight 88-mph fast ball last night or at least get it to the outfield, and that he was the first choice in that situation, is troubling.

If they went ahead and signed Pagan, they could have a bench of:

Howard
Pagan
Suzuki
d'Arnaud/Bonifacio
Peterson

The team would have to decide who gives them more flexibility and better production between Chase and Emilio

Now that's a 78 game winning bench!

In that scenario, give me d'Arn, easily.

he's not even good at hitting anymore...

Braves seem determined to put together a team in 2017 that would have been awesome in 2005.

It's sad that signing Howard and possibly Pagan is exciting for this team because they are better than most of the pieces on the current bench.

why is it sad that it is exciting that your team is trying to improve itself.. even if it is literally the 25 man that is being upgraded... (hopefully)
