Is there really any reason for the NCAA to continue as if there is actually a D1? It's not as if anyone from somewhere other than the SEC and ACC actually has much of a chance to win. Big 12, Big 10, and PAC 12 teams will occasionally make a little noise, but other than the PAC 10 drawing a decent chunk of the recruits on that end of the country, everybody else is typically combing through the kids that aren't good enough to get drafted and the kids that aren't good enough to play at the SEC or ACC level. It's like AA teams trying to compete with MLB clubs.

BA released their most recent Top 25 recruiting classes, and there are 10 SEC teams and 7 ACC teams on the list. There were 3 Big 12 teams on the list, but the entire Top 10 and 12 of the Top 14 were SEC and ACC schools.

You pretty much just described college football, except that the number of programs capable of winning a national title is a lot smaller.

Coastal Carolina has a recent national championship.

You ever try playing baseball in big ten country in January? It sucks. You really can’t do it.

A few years back the big 10 wanted to play baseball in the fall since it was more feasible. Not sure what happened to that idea

The Big Ten also tried to get the NCAA to push the start of baseball season to around spring break time (mid-March).

The Lions beat the Vikings last weekend. Oh yeah - N. C. State won the basketball Title in 1983 too.

*ell, for that matter the Braves won the 2021 World Series.

In the last thirty years the following have won national titles.

2016 Coastal Carolina
2008 Fresno State
2004 Cal State-Fullerton
2003 Rice
1995 Cal State-Fullerton
1992 Pepperdine

About 20% of the time the national champion comes from a mid-major conference. You can't say the same for college football or men's college basketball.

then didn't you just answer your original question.. why does anyone even play... because you could be the one who finishes on top.
