Did not take long: Padres DFA Northcraft

The Padres have designated righty Aaron Northcraft for assignment, Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports on Twitter. His 40-man spot was needed with the finalization of the James Shields signing.

Well, heck, if he clears waivers, maybe the Braves will take him back outside the 40-man limit.

I expect the same if the Twins return Graham at the end of spring training.

I've never been that big of a Northcraft fan (I know some in here are) and it will be interesting to see where he lands.

I don't know if this makes me a fan, but I've always put ahead of Schlosser and behind Hale as they were moving up. And all of the above behind Sims, Hursh and Parsons in the past couple years. I find it interesting that the club has held on to Williams Perez (who is on the 40-man roster) while moving Hale, Schlosser and Northcraft this off-season. Maybe it means something maybe not, but Perez has come out of nowhere to pitch very well at three levels including AA the past two seasons.

I wasn't high on Northcraft, most games I saw him he just didn't impress me. That is why I didn't really care that he was included in the Justin Upton deal.

Rumors out of SD are is that he hurt his elbow in throwing program and probably will have to have TJ surgery and with the depth that the Padres have, after signing Shields they decided to cut him....but now the Braves have strong interest.
