Do it Obama

Boy if he pardons Snowden it will be hilarious.

The right wanted to lynch Snowden for treason. And recently Snowden has defended Trump and Russia, so if Obama pardons Snowden I'm not sure how middle America will feel about it and if they want Trump to "do something" about it.

I know some on the left started not liking Snowden and Assange recently. If they can back up their claims I'm all for it.

Assange is an editor and a giant dick. I could give 2 ****s about him, but he's clearly in Russia's pocket.

Snowden is a whistleblower and hero. Rather than punish Snowden, the US should bring him in to figure out how he did what he did in more detail to prevent it from happening again.

Snowden should be pardoned because while he did something illegal, he did something good. What he brought to light was good.

I would have a lot of respect for Obama if he pardoned Snowden and Manning but only as long as he doesn't give Hillary a pardon which I still think he will do. If Obama also wants to support the right to own your body he could go straight to Colorado, buy some legal weed and smoke it live on national tv.

there isn't anything to pardon hillary for and Snowden said this today:

"Mr. President, if you grant only one act of clemency as you exit the White House, please: Free Chelsea Manning. You alone can save her life."

Absolutely agree. Snowden will eventually be pardoned, but he may have to wait until the next young Democrat President comes along. It won't happen under Trump or any other R - that's for sure.

i'm curious if he doesn't get a pardon

how it will affect his status in Russia with how the orange thing is so close to them

I have long thought his safety there was tenuous at best. The only reason they allowed him there in the first place was to troll Obama/US. With Snowden's criticism of Russia and Russia's improved relationship with the Trump/US, I can't imagine he has much value to Russia. Hopefully it ends up merely with him given the boot and not assassinated.

Is Manning barred from running for office in any way? I would vote for him or Snowden in a heartbeat.

This guy?

Should get death. He released gov't secrets that endangered our soldiers, outed others and got them killed.

Outed some, which is ****ty, but nothing CHelsea released was above secret classification. All things almost anyone in the military or government would have access to.

Can someone explain why Manning should be released? Im not sure I have read a good answer in that article.

Maybe an actual answer this time? Unlike how no one could answer why they supported Native Americans in the pipleline.

But, if those people would have disclosed, they would have committed a crime, correct?

I supported NoDAPL because I (almost) always support autochthonous peoples in any dispute against governments or industries (at least in the US, where I am better informed regarding the historical realities); and, furthermore, because I am against the continued scaling-up of fossil-fuel usage. There are some other factors, as well; but how's that for an "actual answer"?

As for Manning, she had already been jailed for longer than any other individual had for a similar crime in United States history—mostly under the inhumane conditions of solitary confinement—and, moreover, a commutation only signals clemency, as opposed to a pardon (which confers the shape of approval for the act committed). She's still a criminal in the eyes of the US, she's just been granted mercy (which, as an ostensibly-Christian nation, we should always champion).
