Interesting opinion piece. She advocates "Final Five" voting which still has a primary, just a less important one. However, there are some other models out there too. You could do away with primaries all together and just have ranked choice voting.
I really think this is something more states should consider. Maybe even have Congress mandate it for all Congressional elections. I don't think you'd have much problem getting politicians to support the only threat to their re-election. It would also dramatically diminish the voices of the extremes of the party while increasing the voices of voters in a district that belong to a minority party.
Honestly, this would be a great step towards bringing politics back from the brink.
