Dusty Baker to the Nats

This happened a few days ago but I think it deserves some consideration. With Baker as the manager, how long until Strasburg's arm falls off? I'll be using a stop watch to countdown.

From what I have read, this used to be his MO back in Chicago, but really hasn't been the case in his stops since. They just need someone to get out of the way, and he should probably be able to manage that. Toothpick distributors in the area have started expansion.

Hyuk. Ol' Dusty, running his pitchers into the ground.

The more I see of max effort pitching and the need to throw 95 to get a look, the more I think arm injuries are just an occupational hazard. Guys used to pitch in four man rotations with 20 complete games a year and 300 innings and not get hurt like these guys on pitch counts when 200 innings is an absolute workhorse. A big strikeout guy was 9K/ 9 innings, now that's decent. Branch Rickey was looking for a 2:1 K/BB ratio, now 3:1 is the yardstick.

The cost is arms.

It appears that Mike Maddux will be the pitching coach, this is a big step above just having Baker back there making decisions.

that was a good get by the Gnats. more so than Baker as manager. Baker needs to sit and chew toothpicks and make everyone play nice.. let Maddux handle the pitching..

Whatever. We got Fredi.
