Elder leading us to a series win. 6/22 GDT

I hope AA isn't blind at this point. I know he doesn't wanna sell but he said that before the Sale injury so it would free him of going back on his word.
AA is not going to sell... he is going to think that 2021 wasn't a 4% lucky hit and thinks he can repeat it.

2021 is the only season AA made any meaningful additions. I would rather see that than the crap he's done the last 2 deadlines
giving up any prospects, even no names, for short term rental players that will only hurt the Braves draft position would be monumentally dumb and only cement AA bottom 5 GM classification I am ready to give him.

Iglesias? Pierce Johnson? Robbie Grossman had an .879 OPS vs LHP in 2022. Soler really helped our offense down the stretch last year.

Iggy and pierce were good moves. Soler was a head scratcher to me... any help he gave us with the bat was most likely canceled out in the field. No idea why you add soler on a team with ozuna. While AA did add a couple nice pieces, the problem is what he didn't add.

Iggy is the only "significant" deadline move AA has made during his tenure. Not that other players haven't made significant contributions, but those other players were unexpected surprises. None of them were players that were particularly hard to acquire.

Iggy wasn't hard to acquire either since the Angels basically gave him away, but he was still a top tier closer, so that counts as a significant move.

Edit: Forgot about Gausman. He was a fairly significant deadline addition.

Wasn’t JJ also a good closer for Detroit?

He was acquired in the off-season.

I assume maybe you mean Shane Greene? We also acquired Martin and Melancon that same deadline. And while all those guys were very good relievers, the packages we gave up to get them were pretty meager.

His contract would be moved easily. I'd be on the phone with the Cardinals who need a C and they have quality SS to trade. I'd go hard after JJ Wetherholt. He's their top SS prospect and #18 on pipeline. He's 22 and will be ready to start next year. I'd even put Ritchie with Murphy to get him.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to go after the guy he'll be replacing, Masyn Winn. Winn was a 3.6 WAR player last year and is on pace for around the same this year.

I'd be fine with Winn also. Winn is proven in MLB so you know what you are getting, Whetherholt is a prospect so he could always flop. Depends on who the Cards see long term being their guy. Winn is only a year older than Whetherholt.

That's what I have been saying for awhile now. Cards seem more likely to deal Winn than Wetherholt, but not until the off-season. Winn is a nice player, but his offensive ceiling is limited. He's pretty similar to Bae early in his career.

Which would be a huge upgrade. Even if we traded for Whetherholt instead it wouldn't help us this season. You're right though that the Cards aren't trading Winn right now while they are still in it.
