I'm not a big fan of shield laws myself. I think the press is actually over protected. If the material is illegally obtained or they are aware of a crime then they should have to disclose their sources. The problem is that the press is so influential and they hold confidentiality a sacred cow. Having a free press doesn't require sanctioning any activity they want sanctioned.
