Florida Beaches

Playing the Waiting Game
My wife and I are planning a short trip to Florida in mid April. We aren't looking to spend too much and only plan on being at the beach for a day or two before heading to Orlando. What beaches do you recommend? We will be driving from Illinois.

The panhandle ones are gorgeous (Pensacola - Destin - Panama City) - white sand, emerald water. Not sure what the temperatures are like in April - but they are pretty far from Orlando. The Gulf beaches around St. Pete aren't bad - but it has been decades since I've been to them. Maybe somebody else can give you better intel.

Mexico Beach (Gulf side) isn't too bad, the beach itself, but the hotels, etc,. were a bit old and run down when we went there about 10 years or so ago, Cocoa Beach was nice and I would recommend it (Atlantic side), Bedell's right about the time of year having an effect, even in Florida. I LOVE the Keys but the beaches I saw weren't all that great, more mucky dirt rather than pristine sands, but that's as far south as you can go so the temps would be better. You might try doing some research on the Keys, especially Key West, that might be the best beaches in the Keys.

Also, we are planning on going to Universal Studios in Orlando. Anyway to get cheaper tickets than what is listed on their website?

Clearwater Beach isn't too far from Orlando. Is that one any good?

Clearwater is a nice beach. It may be crowded with high schoolers. At least it used to be. Havent been there for a few years. I prefer the beaches on the east coast.

If I still worked there, I would hook you up with some comps. Also, Clearwater is nice.

You could go to the Atlantic Coast, and go to the Titusville area and go see Cape Canaveral ;)

The weather in April should be around a high of 80-85 and low around 70-75
