Vodnik has 9 Ks through 5 innings.

Pretty fun couple weeks in the system. Seems like every night at least one pitcher is having a strong outing.

I wonder if Roark could've been a much better option than Tomlin. Now I'd just wait on Ian and ynoa, cut Tomlin and move touki in his role. Roark could've been an actual asset instead of Tomlin being total trash though

I did not think Roark had been good at all anywhere this season.

Obviously, it's MiLB, but...
2.72 era
38 k in 36.1 ip

You have to realize I detest Tomlin. I think signing him to an mlb deal was one of the dumbest things I've ever saw

Ahh. Just seems like he's always getting lit up when I notice him in the minors threads.

I do not know why they signed Tomlin either, but it's not really his fault when he actually pitches and I don't guess that giving someone with any remaining aspirations that role would be all that great during the season.

Maybe Roark would be better choice now and a better arm down stretch probably makes sense.

What would be fitting is AA turning Strider/Elder/Vodnik/Vines/Estes/Schwellenbach/Smith-Shawver/Shoemaker into the homegrown rotation everyone hoped the rebuild was going to produce and Cusick into the next coming of Kimbrel while not holding onto Shuster/Muller/Davidson too long and turning one (or a couple) of them into Dansby's eventual replacement.

If he were to move the "names" in that group in time while coming up with at least 3 SPs from the rest of that mix, we'd probably have to stop criticizing him for not trading Touki/Wright/Wilson soon enough.

Need to see it last, but that's an awfully hot two week stretch for Pache - .371/.436/.743 with 3 HRs, 4 2Bs, and 9 RBIs in August. Still swinging at everything though - 4 BBs in 35 ABs.

Looks like AA did what Wren never could. He is rebuilding a farm without top assets. Something we did well in the 90s and early 21st century.

AA just might keep the braves in contention for another ten years.

I was thinking about Pache's struggles the other day and while it's not apples-to-apples, I was reminded of the time the Twins sent down Torii Hunter midway through his second season in the majors when he was in the midst of a terrible slump. Hunter spent two months in AAA and came back in a much better place and his career took off from there. I don't know if it was a needed mental break or if something needed to be fixed, but the trip back clearly was helpful.

Pache is a different player in a different era, so I'm not drawing too many conclusions, but Hunter was also rushed through the minors and needed a refresher course. Could be the same with Pache.

The rebuild did produce a homegrown rotation.

Here's the thing about Christian. He soaks up instruction. Which is fine if it's a consistent voice that preaches the same thing. Pache has undergone too much swing tampering. (I'm making excuses but it's my belief). I understood adjusting the plane of his swing from rookie ball to Rome to get more lift. His best minor league season he was short and to the ball. To wit, in the Arizona Fall League in 2018 I think...he lifted his leg slightly and quickly barreled balls. I think it was that year also where he first started hitting homeruns and improving offensively.

Fast forward to now, he's undergone at least 2 different swing changes in gwinnett. David Lee noticed it a couple of times too. I like this version of Pache because hes more compact, he has quick enough bat speed and it leads him to cut down that swing. For me, if this one is closer to his most successful offensive output in the minors, they'd do well to let him grow and gain the confidence that he had 2 years ago. He just needs to quiet the voices in his head.

I hope this version of Pache can sustain some success.

You forgot Cusick

Impossible for us to know, but if he needs a "consistent voice preaching the same thing" I sure hope Seitzer was a big part of prescribing what changes he's made because there's not much of a chance Seitzer's going anywhere for a long while.

Even if the changes are taking for good, he's still swinging at more pitches than I'd like - with his speed, it'd sure be nice to have him towards the top. Of course that won't matter nearly so much if they work the CBA out and there's a DH next season.

4 walks in 39 PA is at least above league average (10%) and right in line with his season in AAA.

Pache’s biggest issue is swing and miss. It killed him in the majors and it’s been a problem in the minors this year.

While that's true, visual evidence shows him taking pitchers deeper into counts too. I'd rather see that than 3-4 pitch at bats.
