Both have had outstanding springs so far. I was sorry to see them go. The return seemed a bit light in both trades. But hey we had a log-jam in the upper minors and now we've created a spot for Danks in the AAA rotation.

I read that Gant's velocity is up and adding a more consistent third pitch is coming along too. I hated that trade for just one year of oft-injured Garcia (I like Garcia well enough when healthy, but that's another story) and I didn't like trading off Povse either.
Hated the Garcia trade. For that much money we should have gotten him almost free.
Yeah, the argument was that it was three prospects without much upside for one year of Garcia. I just never understood why a team that won't make the playoffs is giving up prospects of any level for one year of a guy like Garcia anyway. It makes no sense.
I always liked Gant as a solid reliever with that changeup anyway. I think it was Keith Law who said he could be Tyler Clippard out of the pen, and I always liked that comparison. If the velo really has ticked up, this is going to be a really bad trade.
If Garcia has a good year I bet we give him a QO. So we could get a pick out of that deal.
I guess. I'd rather just deal him before the deadline if he's having a good year. I don't have much faith in his ability to stay healthy for long enough to be worth the QO.

That's right. We should burning brain cells now over such minor details...two weeks before the season even starts.
While it's certainly debatable that the Braves are in any kind of position to be giving up young assets for 1 year rentals (Coppy is a genius though, so it will be OK), I think it's important to realize the propsects given up were essentially fungible assets. A good showing over a handful of ST innings doesn't change that fact.
The only pitcher I hated to see go was Povse. That was surprising.
povse trade was 50 times worse than the olivera trade.
