GDT 5/5/21: Braves @ Gnats - Fried Returns

Not entirely sure the day off can be attributed to his "injury" - Ozuna, Riley, and Dansby have also played every game too. Snitker has to eventually give these guys a day off whether he wants to or not.

I agree it's probably been bothering him a bit, but if it was bad enough that he needed to sit for a day or two surely they wouldn't have waited this long to give him that break.

I disagree. If anything, they have shown us in the past that the exact opposite is true, at least in regards to Freeman.

The key to load management is to rest the players before they “need a day off”. These rest days should be built in and followed regardless of current production.

Just saying... extensions for first basemen over 30 usually don't go well.

They don't - but when the guy has been the face of your franchise for the better part of a decade coming off an MVP season and you have two perennial All-Stars under contract at shockingly below market value for the duration of the contract you're likely going to need to give that aging 1B you bite your lip and pay him a little more than he's likely to deserve those last couple seasons.

NOBODY - including the Rays and Dodgers - can "keep the gang together" if they're only willing to hand out contracts based on expected production. You realize Mookie Betts is going to make $145 million for his age 36-40 seasons, right?
